How big is your door in your frameless glass shower?
Comments (8)Thank you, everyone. As I review again my magazine pictures I'm beginning to think that the one's showing the fixed panels going to the ceiling are actually steam showers. One shows what appears to be a transom that is tilted open. Another has the door and both side panels all the way to the ceiling. If these aren't steam showers I can't imagine why the glass would be set up this way. At this point my preferred set up would be to have each of the panels at 14" wide and the door at 28". This way I could achieve symmetry, make DH happy, and be sure that the door wouldn't be in danger of hitting the controls when it swings in or hitting the towel bar when it swings out. This discussion will be really helpful when I talk to the glass company again. It's hard for me when I'm dealing with someone who has a lot of experience installing showers to convince them that my ideas are feasible. When are getting to the end of this house building project and I feel so worn down sometimes but you guys are great in lifting my spirits. Thanks again....See MoreCan you attach a glass shower door to glass wall tile
Comments (3)I have glass tiles but I guess mine are different. But I will say this if you get 10 glass door companies out there you will get 10 opinions on what needs to happen. The people that don't bring levels and such get rid of them first. They wanted to put support rods across the top of mine and drill into my floor. Here is how mine is constructed maybe you can tweak it to fit your needs. I have a 28" wide x 80" tall 3/8" thick door that has 45 deg hinges that swings off of a 1/2" thick piece of glass that goes from floor to ceiling. There are 2 clips on the wall and one at the top where this glass goes to the ceiling. This holds the panel steady. It is just siliconed at the wall and bottom, no drilling into floor. The other fixed panel is 28" wide x 80" tall 3/8" thick and has only one small attachment at the top corner the rest is siliconed in. It works beautifully and you see the true beauty of the glass not a bunch of hardware and head rails. My Glass tiles are bullet proof as it is glass laminated onto porcelain and it is really tough to drill through but I don't think they should have a problem using the correct drill bit and possibly keeping it wet while drilling with acetone or water to keep it cool. This company might have had problems before and they are now nervous with the situation. I suggest that you keep getting quotes. It's a pain and slows the process but in the end positive results....See MoreCan I see your front door dressed for Christmas
Comments (129)I would classify myself as an updated traditionalist. I enjoy searching and collecting special things over time as I can afford them. I appreciate and enjoy my home, friends and family. I donÂt live near my family so it is special when we can be together. I have had my ups and downs in this life as all of us have. I came here to share ideas with like minded, talented people. The photo of my home is a true reflection of my nature which is why I let it speak for myself. I find it more interesting to listen then to speak, because I tend to learn more. I sew, cook, loom weave, paint (mostly my house) and I am working on developing a decent tennis serve!...See MoreHow do I fix a shower door that swings open like this??
Comments (10)A real photo would help here. For me, at least, the video clip actually makes it harder to really see what's going on. I assume your problem is that what appears to be a pivot at lower right has broken loose from the glass door. Is that correct? One of the challenges here is to re-bond that pivot in exactly the right place for the door to close properly. You have only once chance to get it right. If I were going to try to fix this myself, I'd probably start by ordering a new pivot and some of the factory adhesive from the company that made the door. There's no adhesive in the world that will hold unless the glass and pivot inside are factory-clean. I'd mark the current hinge position carefully, remove the door from the shower, clean the glass thoroughly (somehow keeping the position mark intact, darned if I know how), and then bond the new pivot following the manufacturer's instructions carefully. I think what I'd be more inclined to do is mark the pivot position, remove the door, and take it to a good local glass shop to be repaired by someone who knows his stuff better than I do. I might even try to order a complete new door from the factory. Whatever you do, make sure you know what you're doing. As others have pointed out, that's a mighty darn big and heavy chunk of glass to have fall and break when you're standing dripping wet and buck-naked next to it....See MoreJoe
