Help! What color to paint my home? Cedar shingle

We are having a difficult time figuring out what color to paint out new home and desperately need help! We know we want a beige color but those colors range from too yellow to too creamy to too dark. Here is a pic of the new home, which will be cedar shingles throughout except for the top peaks which will be board and batton in white. Also attached is a pic of a home with a color that I like. My biggest fear is painting the house and not being happy with the result! Thanks!

You have shown a rendering or the house, not a picture of it, and your peaks are called gables :)

Choose stone and roof colors, then colors for the trim and body.

How far along is your build?

Thx, yes, this is all I have, aside from the architectural drawings. Right, gables! It’s just started to get framed today. It’s an existing home that is being completely renovated. We want a beachy look. I have read about Cabot bleaching oil to give me that beach house look but I have heard mixed comments on that. Chimney will be danish brick...not sure whether we will ultimately ditch the stone based and just have the columns end in shingles. I would image the roof to be a darker beige tone.

Well, I have a cedar shake roof - I live in New England and they are EVERYWHERE, and all over the coast where they are exposed to harsh weather. (We are on the coast.) We inherited the roof, but were told by our contractor during our (ongoing) renovation that if kept properly sealed, it should last for 20+ years. We're not sure of the exact product used so that's a low end estimate. If it was a high end product it can last for 50+ years. I'm sure you'll get lots of responses from peeps who know the details but cedar in general resists rot. I totally believe the cedar saleswoman - they will last, especially if properly cared for. And yeah, I wouldn't trust the sales guy for the fake stuff because he's clearly trying to sell his product. We were told to seal our roof every few years. It's an easy job, we hired it out and they sprayed it for I think $500. There are vinyl products that look pretty good, but if they aren't in the colors you want, then that's that. Real cedar will of course be more maintenance than vinyl, since vinyl is virtually maintenance free. but that's a trade off - the real stuff is unmistakable and it's definitely a "look".

I will upload one. Thank you for your reply. Paint brand is Pittsburgh Paint. Not sure about the primer. Painter is supposed to be coming by to see it. I'm guessing the correct primer would be oil-based?

Your home is Contemporary, but not Colonial by any definition. All of your evergreens have hit their 'sell by' date. They are overgrown covering your windows and cannot be trimmed into any viable shapes. Look at Superdeck.com for Their Duck Back stains for your home. Here is the color chart I would recommend you select a weathered driftwood stain for your home and possibly consider a corrugated metal roof for your home. To complement the new stain I would recommend the driveway be overlayed with a Chip or Macadam stone driveway. The contractor sprays some tar on the existing asphalt driveway spreads stone like a pea gravel and then rolls over the stone to press the new layer into the tar. I think it could be a handsome finish to your home.

Update- i have the prices for the Cedar Impressions an its way beyond my budget. I'm waiting on pricing and colour samples for a Novik Novikshake RS8 in 301 oak or 304 teak. I should have added my location to my original post. The home will be located in Nova Scotia on the Ocean coastline (Northumberland Strait). It will face Northwest and have a mostly window front Chalet look.

Shingled column bases down to the floor level, then brick to match the fireplace from there to the ground. If the two columns either side of the stairs are close together, consider a single larger base.

Are you set on the arched windows/decorative elements? First thing I noticed and they seem more appropriate for a different style house.

Cedar shingles are usually stained, so you may want to state that instead of asking about paint -- unless you do intend to paint.

As for color, for me beige doesn't equal beachy.

I wouldnt paint cedar shingles, definitely stain.

thank you both. I like your idea about the shingled column bases to the floor and then brick. Also agree with the single larger base in lieu of the two columns. This color to me is very beachy, I guess it would be considered a light tan. I believe it is a bleaching oil and not paint.
