To advise on various forms of beige and off-white via Internet is difficult. I personally wouldn't suggest trying to find a pure neutral solution, as those work best when you can fully design each color and texture to create the rich look of a successful all-neutral room. But since you're renting, I would advise finding some colors and patterns that can be eyecatchers and they will take your eyes away from the 23 different ways the yellowed version of Navajo White clashes with a cooler tone elsewhere. Throw in a gorgeous tribal kilim or 2 with deep reds, navy, flashes of orange etc. Or whatever your colorway and style profile may be, just get some real patterns and real colors in there. Start with a good-sized high-contrast rug like those suggested already. Once you see how that looks, then move on to your other ideas--desk, bar, etc. Grover's idea for a sofa table displaying photos or art work is just great because it opens up the window and curtain space. Going forward, Keep in mind that you have all brown flooring--a "fourth wall"--massive brown sofa, big black TV set, brown table in the niche, and brown coffee table. Enough with the brown! Notice how great your curtains look. Add light pillows or pieces with color or other finishes than brown. Good luck!

Haha love the cat photo. Is the trim around doors and baseboards painted? I'd change that if it is. Perhaps go with wall color. It doesn't go with the doors at all. You can get away with any (normal) oak color for the floors. I think the current color is pretty good with the other different woods. It's that trim that is wrong. (It's not bad with the floors but it is wrong with the doors and if I have to pick trim vs those sweet doors, the doors win.)

Read the whole post again. Everyone is telling you te same thing regarding updates. "You're a young 73?" THEN DON'T DESIGN LIKE 83!!! or 88! Right? Yes, right! I have a client with the exact same unit, right now! ...........it is going directly ( top ) to the bonfire. Get a contractor for the tv issue. A tv today weighs less than a lot of framed pictures. Molly Is the word....and you still have the important part of the unit. You got your 18 years worth. It owes you not a dime.
