Help - Need New Cushion Covers for Sofa
Comments (3)amck, I received a message via gardenweb that had my earlier post copied into it, but a message at the bottom said that the member did not wish to reveal their email address, so I could not reply to that message via email. I can not advertise my shop on Garden Web - that would be spam, I guess! So all I can do is tell you that if you sign in to Etsy, you can find me by searching in handmade items for "custom made bench cushions", then look for the shop with my name in it. My real name is Heidi, BTW!...See MoreQuestion about custom-sized window seat cushion
Comments (14)I had a bunch in my house before last. So many, and at the times I had two toddlers, so I took shortcuts on a lot of them. If you don't want to take shortcuts or sew them yourself, they get expensive pretty quickly. I never did get a quote under $300, even for the small ones. In comparison, I used a Joann's coupon for the foam on each one I made, and then special ordered or used specialty fabric from a higher end store and they still were all under $100. I actually think the smaller one I made for less than $50 when special order fabrics were 40% off. I had the longest one in the family room made, and it was right when the cost of petroleum was really high about 10 years ago, which made foam really expensive, and it cost more than any other piece of upholstered furniture I had at the time. (although, to be fair, I was a young mom with mostly cheap, new family furniture). In my bedroom I bought the foam and wrapped it kind of like a present so the folds on the ends were "pretty," ironed it with starch, and then hot glued it underneath and where it wouldn't show. I always planned to go back and sew it when I had time but it held up and looked great so I never did. In another room where I wanted to be able to remove the cover to wash I sewed it myself, and it was very simple, I did it in an hour or two. If you have a sewing machine, you don't even need "skills," it's really turning the fabric inside out over the cushion, pinning it together, and sewing straight lines. I didn't do a zipper on that one because the bench had 3 wooden sides that hid it anyway, so I made the back a little longer and used snaps to tuck in underneath. The last one was the most complicated, it was more "real" sewing with a zipper and welting for my living room....See MorePlease help put together my family room!
Comments (14)For the rug, I would do two of the same rug in different sizes/shapes. Would stick with grey, teal and orange theme to warm it up. Something like This rug . You could also do a custom bench cushion to go over the cabinet for window seating here . It can be customized any way you want - fabric, color, pattern, style. Just make sure those cabinets can support the weight of full grown adult. For a table- would probably stick with rectangular. If you want something "different", round may work depending on the type. Would do a weathered grey wood table to keep in line with the rest of the colors like This If you were going to do a solid color rug, then I would probably use a tufted ottoman as a coffee table in a brick orange to add some texture and color. But I love the way grey and orange look together....See MoreDecorating a reading nook...HELP!
Comments (10)What a great reading nook! I don't think this room needs much help at all. You have a rug and curtains all set. You will eventually get a seat cushion. There is a lovely space for some art- no need to rush that- the right pictures will appear. I would start with some throw pillows that will work with the eventual seat cushion you buy. I would consider if the space could use a console table opposite the bench. A nice landing spot for some books and magazines and a cup of tea. Would some sconces look good on the wall with the bench? Maybe you could decorate the bench wall with a framed wallpaper panel (framed with moulding, not picture framed.) I am always concerned about where my head rests when there is a bench against a wall like that- so it limits art installation. But really and truly you have a great space. Don't rush yourself. It will come together very nicely....See MoreJAN MOYER
