Ordering Custom Window Seat Cushion online - w/ Dacron Wrap?
Comments (1)You definitely want your indoor cushion wrapped. I have traditional, old furniture and everything is about 3 1/2 inches deep and works great with a quality cushion. I think you see the deeper cushions with more contemporary furniture (in no way am I an expert) or sometimes with cheaper foam to make up for lack of quality. I suppose it's just a personal choice. I have bought outdoor cushions online, custom fit to some wicker pieces and they turned out great. I usually use a local upholsterer though, I was just disappointed with my old upholster and hadn't found my new guy yet. The advantage of going local is you can evaluate the cushion quality before you commit. There is a big difference in foams. Some are cheap and don't last and others are so hard you can hardly sit on them. I'm attaching a link to a site that explains a little about foam density and helps to explain some of the numbers you see when picking them out. Here is a link that might be useful: cushion density and compression...See MoreHow thick should my window seat cushion be AND yardage?
Comments (4)You need 3 yards of fabric for the larger cushion plus a yard to make about 13 yards of piping. You need 1 2/3 for the smaller, plus about 2/3 yard to make 7 yards of piping. You can find charts for piping if you do a search for "continuous bias", that is what they cut to make piping. Most of the charts are for quilters so they are calculating based on 45" wide fabric. That means the quantity I've given you for piping is generous because your fabric is 58"....See MoreAffordable cushions for window seat/ breakfast nook.
Comments (28)I have the seat cushions from a couch that my mom got rid of a few years ago (yes, we've been at this remodel that long...) that I've been saving for a bench seat. We picked up some auto upholstery material at a garage sale to cover them with. It looks kind of like a plush microfiber fabric. When I think of how long the seats in a car last with relatively little care, it seems like this should be a durable solution. I've also made a quick non-sewing cover of a smaller cushion where I simply wrapped the foam like a birthday present and pinned everything together with large safety pins on the underside. The pins don't show from the top or sides. It looks upholstered, but the cover can be removed for cleaning. This might not hold up to high usage, though....See MoreYet another question about Lee Industries cushion choices
Comments (6)I have the cloud nine and find it too hard and uncomfortable. Reached out to Lee and they said they could only replace the cushions with the same type (which if they are uncomfortable, why would u want more of the same) but would they would put a note to make them softer. Still hard and uncomfortable. So essentially a waste of cushions and shipping altogether for Lee and myself instead of trying to please a customer. The fabric (linen looking) also pills badly, and they told me to shave with a sweater shaver or sand w sandpaper to get off all the little balls. (I have no pets so this is just normal wear) This is with calling them soon after receiving the couch. So they aren’t going to do much for you if the fabric isn‘t holding up or you are not satisfied with the cushions. A very expensive sofa to purchase for such poor customer service. Yet being that I don’t wish to add this big thing to the landfill and need a sectional, I will be purchasing new cushions and very expensive slipcovers. (Likely spending more than I would for a new couch) my friend has the same sofa, different cushions, and it’s very comfortable, so I have hope. Unfortunately she doesn’t remember which one. So far cloud nine is hard and maintains shape and down is comfortable but needs constant fluffing. So I’m thinking that maybe leaves the Haven. Maybe you should look at Restoration Hardwares cloud collection. If I purchased a new sofa, that was one I was considering. Good luck on your purchase getting stuck w one for several thousand dollars that you are not happy with is definitely a bummer....See MoreRelated Professionals
