Does anyone have a donut pan?

My kids(grown, married) are coming to visit this weekend and they have decided it would fun to make some pumpkin donuts my daughter-in-law discovered in a gluten free cookbook. My husband is GF as well so she loves to spend time with us as we are all about finding new GF foods. (unlike when she visits some other in laws who basically make her feel like she’s just being high maintenance Lol)

Anyway the recipe is for baking, not frying so I was looking into getting a set. I can get traditional non-stick pans or I can get silicone. I’ve used silicone forms for making gummy bears and soap but never baked in them. I just feel like the baked stuff will stick and not want to come out.

What is y’all‘s experience?

IME, silicone baking molds work perfectly well. That is afterall what silpat baking sheets are made of!! I would still be inclined to very lightly grease the molds, especially if the recipe called for it.

I have a couple metal non-stick donut pans someone gave me. They work great for baking donuts...something I haven't done in awhile! Just based on my own experience, silicone pans aren't the best with heat conduction. They're good if sticking is a concern, but browning can be minimal. Just depends on what you're baking and the result you want. I had some silicone baking pans (muffin and cake) and finally gave them away.

Just to follow up my OP. When I went to JC Penney, I ended up buying two pans. Penney's was having a huge sale on the Circulon 12" non-stick, originally $59, on sale for $17.99! So I bought that Circulon 12" pan, and also the Cooks Tri-Ply linked above, except in the 10" size. I decided I didn't like the handles on the Cooks hard-anodized, so that choice was out of the running. The 10" pan size is actually more practical, since I use it more frequently. But I am glad to have the 12" size for those times I have a big amount for the pan. Having now used both the Circulon and the Tri-Ply non-stick, I'd say the Tri-Ply is slightly preferable. Mostly for cleaning; they both cook equally well. The Circulon, with its tiny ridges (that help with the non-stick ability) is a slightly bit harder to clean cause you have to make sure all the ridges are clean. It's not a big deal, maybe another 30-45 seconds of cleaning over the Tri-Ply nonstick. Hope my post helps anyone else looking for non-stick pans that are inexpensive but still cook well. I know there is another thread on this Forum where someone doesn't like their T-Fal nonstick. I saw those T-Fals in the store, and felt they were really lightweight, compared to other pans in that same price ballpark. I am glad I chose the JC Penney's Cooks Tri-Ply, and would recommend it.

Melanie, thanks for the follow up. "Glass Land" came from the fact that I have a "plastic land" - that's my husband's name for where all the rubbermaid/gladware/and, yes, we have one of those carousel storage systems is. If I could figure out how to embed a picture in these posts, I'd attach a picture of my current glass land. I have everything stacked on top of each other - DH refuses to put dishes away in it. I feel like drawers won't help with accessibility very much - I'll still have to stack items on top of each other. Diamond actually has a couple of pictures that show this same pull-out really loaded up, and it looks very versitile. Both pullouts can slide separately so there's no reaching under and over things. I still would have to stack items, no question, but it seems like a better option than just a regular 2 pullout trays. I have two 12" and one 4" drawer under my induction cooktop. The two 12" drawers hold all my pots, including the 8 qt. stockpot. I wouldn't have it any other way. Pull-out drawers, behind doors, cost as much, or more, and it takes more motion to open the doors (both of them if you have two) and then pull out the shelf you need. Why go through all that? Next to my cookware drawers I have the same size, height-wise, drawers, which are across from my dishwasher where my plates, bowls, serving dishes and utensils are. It's great to open out the dishwasher and open out the drawers and load the dishes right into the drawers. Don't have to take one step. And the dishes are in the island with the cooktop so dishing up dinner for DH and me is a breeze. I wouldn't have cabinet doors underneath for much of anything. Drawers make so much more sense.

I have non stick pans and just made 6 dozen donuts Sunday for our after church treat! Worked wonderfully. Pumpkin doughnuts sound good!

I use silicone pans for cupcakes all the time. I give them a light spray and nothing ever sticks, and it's easier to get the cupcakes out than with a regular pan as you can push them from underneath if they need encouraging.

I've found it's best to support them in the oven on a cookie sheet.

Can't edit, so will add, I haven't had any issues with not browning: my cupcakes brown finr.

Maybe it just depends on the brand you use. I can't remember the brand I had, but they just didn't do a great job.

Those doughnuts look fabulous. I’m going to do a quick search and see what price I can find.

I have metal non-stick doughnut pans. I make apple doughnuts and sometimes use some squash flour in those, but I might have to give pumpkin a try.

I tend to prefer metal to silicone because metal seems more stable/solid than silicone. But I still tend to put a lipped cookie sheet under my pans just in case anyway.
