Can green Sugar Maple seeds still germinate?

Timothy Wood

I was wondering. Can sugar Maple seeds still germinate if still green but fully developed? I read a few times that maples germinate more readily when collected while still soft which I guess means still green but fully formed. Yesterday I collected several clusters of seeds from a Sugar Maple in another yard with permission from the owner. They were still green and fully developed. I cracked one open ans the film around the embryo was white but it was fully developed. Will these still germinate and do they still need cold treatment? Thanks.
