pictures of warm white cabinets with lighter granite
Comments (49)Hi, I have been looking to find a thread like this. I wonder if anyone can help me. I am definitely losing sleep over this issue. We live in a ranch and are redoing our kitchen as well as continuing the wood flooring of the kitchen into a fireplace/ den room which connects to a living room as well as into the dining room. We are getting painted white/cream cabinets with Delicatus white granite. I love the look together. My question is whether to go with a whitewashed, handscaped white oak floor or a dark taupe color wood floor (both look great with the cabinets and granite and both have no yellow or red which would not go with the colors in the room). I know both would look great. I kind of always pictured the floor of the kitchen as light, and the light handscraped/ whitewashed floor is kind of ranch-like. But, I am hoping that I will be able to create enough interest with different textures and some darker harmonious tones in the room, because I don't want the room to look too monotone. Also, I know that the dark wood would probably pop more and look more sophisticated. I am not sure, but I think the dark would may give the house a higher resale value in the future, because it is trendy and sophisticated. We have not picked out most of our furniture yet, so that will be decided once the floor is decided. Helppp Pleasee if you can!! : )...See MoreJet Mist granite with wooden island top???
Comments (10)I know as soon as boxerpups sees this, she'll respond with some great pictures! In the meantime, I don't know how helpful this will be, but I have white cabinets with dark gray granite on perimeter and main island, and a walnut edge grain top on the smaller outer island. My floors are warm wood (red oak, not stained but finished with polyurethane). The wood top is on the warm side, like a tootsie roll with a little pinkish undertone. On the walls I have beadboard paneling to wainscot level, then BM Quiet Moments, a light blue/gray/green which a friend described today as calming and cool but warm and welcoming as well. DD described it as "cozy" (she's 11 so perhaps not what most people would say, but if that's what she thinks about it, I'm satisfied.) To me it all works well together. Maybe it's the paint color that really makes it, but I was liking it before the walls were painted as well. So not exactly your situation, but I think if you have mostly cool colors, you'd want something to warm it up a little. (I almost went with cherry but swung to walnut at the last minute. Don't know why; I love it, would have loved the cherry too.)...See MoreKitchen floor, cabinet and granite counter colors - opinions need
Comments (2)Just to throw you one more curve: I've had narual hardwood floor sin my kitchen for 20+ years with dogs and kids, who used to race their tricycles and chase the dogs around the house. The floors are still in pretty good shape although may need some refinishing at one point. We used what was called at the time "Pacific Strong", similar to today's Bona Commercial. Only drawback (advantage) is that one can't see the dirt on the floor....See MorePaint color?drywall/backsplash tile/granite counter-log home kitchen
Comments (11)Thanks Patricia...paled grayed green sounds appealing-Ill look at those colors...as for cabinets-yes, theyll be installed directly on the log wall...we're blessed with an amazing cabinetmaker who is skilled in log home cabinet installation....we also have kiln dried logs-so they wont shrink/settle too much. Ill attach a pic (not a great one, but the only I could find at the moment) of the lower furing wall we had originally built for the lowers--then tore out-because that would have made a backsplash stick out several inches-a ledge--it would have looked weird, & would have pushed fridge & cabinets out too..eating up several inches of kitchen space. So, we took out the furing wall-moved the fridge outlet to the corner, literally, of the log wall & drywall (can see it in my 1st pic of original post-midway up the wall) & plumbing was able to come up through the floor instead of the wall-I conceded & instead of a wall switch am doing an air switch in counter for disposal-only thing left was switch for over sink light-which for convenience-I wanted near the sink-so we're doing a shallow mount light switch under the upper cabinet, to right of sink-unconventional I believe-but a good tradeoff in my mind. Our cabinetmaker is making the upper cabinet rails a little longer anyway for lights/outlets under the cabinets-so I think it will work out ok. I may need to always point out to guests where that switch is-but worth it in order to have a normal 4" granite backsplash on the log wall. The tile will cover the open areas on the drywall/range side--including behind the chimney hood. Sooo..thats the plan-its been one of those ongoing challenges that went on for quite some time-& we finally got everyomes input & solved the problem..yay! :) Now for the fun stuff :)...See MoreToni Hamlett
