Backsplash to warm up white-ish cabs & granite
Comments (48)omg -- I am so embarrassed. I can't believe it's been almost three years. I know it's ridiculous, veevs, but I still have not put in a backsplash! I collected so many sample tiles (all of which are still sitting on my laundry room counter), and then I just got overwhelmed! And then tired. And then bored. And then we moved on to other major house projects (front entry, portico, landscaping, etc.) and other decorating (window treatments, etc.). And then I just became very zen about the whole thing and decided not to stress about it, to enjoy the paint for now, and to just pick out other kitchen things first (eg, got the bamboo shades budge suggested). In fact, it's funny that you're reviving this thread now, as I await delivery of the chandelier that I finally chose for over the island. I'm hoping that getting that up next week will provide a sudden epiphany re the backsplash. I hope to return to that project this fall/winter. Of course, I'm still happy to hear suggestions and welcome any photos! Sorry the thread was such a tease...but there will be a happy ending one day! In the meantime ... enjoy your kitchen and the many delicious meals you will share with your family ... and tell them all just to be zen :)...See MorePictures of Honey Cabinets and Azul Delicatus or Similar Lighter
Comments (10)Hi Julie, I understand how you feel, it's a lot of money and a true joy to think we will have something beautiful that we have wanted a long time in our very own home, we want to be sure it is right!!! No regrets. I love that feeling when something new goes in and you're in awe of how pretty it is, conversely I hate that feeling of OMG, I don't like this and it didn't do what I thought it would. This is followed by the sick feeling of so much money and it's not right!!! Then the guilt and wondering how to fix it. But if you were stopped in your tracks by the beauty of this stone when you saw it, that is a very good sign that you will love it when it goes in. Most of the things I regretted were when I couldn't find what I was looking for and settled or when I had to work around something that I didn't like to start with and had to keep piling on things to go with something I didn't even like to start with. Sure it looked better but it was not very satisfying. I love the Azul stones pretty much of any variety. I was in the big love with Azul Aran for the longest time but the Azul stones are nearly impossible to find around here. I can see why you love this stone and if in the future you ever did paint some or all of the cabinets white it would look lovely with your choice so you have that not to worry about down the road and in the meantime, it looks great with what you have now. Some other things about stone that are important to me is if the stone feels smooth and doesn't have defects, doesn't have a lot of filled places, the resin isn't crazing, devoid of fissures and that it is a quality stone. That will go a long way in how much you love it even if you second guess yourself if it is a good installation and a quality slab and feels wonderful to work on it helps to keep that love alive. OTOH, if you were to choose something else what would it be? Would you go with a different color, darker or lighter? What is bothering you about your choice?...See MoreGranite (White Spring or Bianco Romero) w/ Warm White Cabs
Comments (5)Don't want to throw something else at you, but marble, well-sealed, will not stain. If you get honed marble, etching will be minimized too. Nothing compares to marble if that's the look you truly want. I wanted marble for more than 20 years, but dismissed it because people said marble was a no-no. After doing so much research here, I knew I could do marble. I love my Carrara. Back to granite, Bianco Romano can be lovely, slab dependent. White springs was on my short list when I considered granite. River White, Wine River, and Kashmir White are light. There are some light quartzites that are lovely too. They aren't all available everywhere and can be expensive. Worth checking out though if you're going for light....See MoreShow me pictures of your white cabinets with brown toned granite!
