Mixing kitchen metals with gray cabinets

Hello all! I am excited to have my first discussion here with you.

I am having some color scheme dilemma. I am remodeling my kitchen. Pictured is the cabinet that will be used and the layout. My vision is to have the gray stained shaker cabinet with white quartz counter tops and some type of white back splash. I am thinking beveled subway tiles. For my pop I will have my entrance way with transom and kitchen window trimmed with natural rustic styled wood. I also plan on painting the walls agreeable gray. I will have SS appliances. I really want this kitchen to feel bright yet cozy. I am thinking of incorporating a copper sink with an oil rubbed bronze faucet in order to tie in the wood molding. I am also thinking of having all the cabinets hardware in either copper or bronze. The question is... will those colors work with gray cabinets? Am I mixing too many metals? Are there too many colors happening in this kitchen!? Side note: I have 12 feet cathedral ceilings, the transom is not drawn in the layout, and I will no longer be doing a valance.

Well grey wood is really anything but bright and cozy, but if you're set on it so be it.

What rustic wood are you thinking? IMO that's where the overkill comes in. Are you doing to do it in the stained grey again or leave it natural for the warmth? And what do you mean by put the wood around the window? If you're referring to using it as trim really the kitchen window trim should match the rest of the trim in the home.

As for the metals- have you properly researched copper sinks? Some people love them, other's have major issues. The SS appliances are a neutral, so don't worry about them. Warm metals do play well against grey, but its typically done with painted grey cabinets not stained.

IMO there is a lot of ideas being tossed around trying to achieve this "modern farmhouse" idea, but I think what's going to happen is that it's going to be too much. A modern farmhouse is a subtle style. It's natural materials, bright, warmth etc. You don't need to beat people over the head with it by using reclaimed wood every opportunity you have. Restraint will be your best friend in this design.

Thanks for the response! I posted a picture of the stained gray cabinet I will have. It is pretty light which is why I thought with the white countertops and backsplash it would make the kitchen bright. I also have a lot of light shining into my home. I was thinking of having natural trim to add warmth. I have seen kitchen windows trimmed in a different molding from the rest of the house and it looked lovely. Maybe I am not using the correct terminology when referring to the look I am going for. I am just really concerned about the hardware and if copper mixed with gray and stainless steel would flow. Should I just stick to one metal?

IMO you best figure out if the pulls you want come in different sizes and I think those black ones look very heavy on white cabinets. I like pulls to be in proprtion to the cabinet or drwaer size and lots do not come in enough sizes. As for different ones in different rooms that is not a problem.I do however not like mixing too many finishes in a kitchen so if you want the trendy champagne pulls then go the same for faucet or if you have a stainless sink go satinless

The hardware type and finish should reflect the style of the home. I don't know what style your home is. So in general .... I would not put black hardware on white kitchen cabinets. The safest choice there is brushed nickel. And then I would try to make sure that the pendants in the kitchen "correspond" to the dining room chandelier and so would probably do the same finish for both and I would not choose black. I would NOT do navy blue walls.

Hi Patricia, Thank you for the feedback! Maybe contemporary is not the right word? I'll edit my post. I basically like the look in the kitchen inspiration photos. I know this sounds crazy, but I kind of hate chrome...outside of my chrome oven of course. Do you have any other finish/ hardware suggestions that would go with a black and white/wood kitchen?
