I think we obsess over things sometimes that only we will notice or even think about. I have mixed metals throughout the house, but tried to stay consistent in each room, not exact matches, but in same range, i.e. antigue brass with other dark finish. The kitchen is a mix. The faucet is shiny chrome, the appliances will be SS, the lighting fixtures are a dark bronze or brass (I can't remember) and I've yet to think about cabinet handles. Since the kitchen opens up into the dining area and great room I kept the sconces, chand and fans in the same color family. The only rooms that are really different from the rest of the house and done in pewter/silver, are the master bath and bedroom. Because of the very silver blue I'll have going on there I thought the pewter fixtures would be very pretty. The truth is the fixtures are actually modern and the rest of the house is more antique, old world style. I did remember to keep the hinges and door knobs the same on the interior doors. Didn't think of it until after DH hung the back and side exterior doors with hinges that are different than knobs. Guess what though, I've never once noticed it. I don't think people will be concentrating on the hinges on my doors, at least I hope not. HA! Here's something even funnier, I have not noticed the hinges on my new front door and let husband order the door locks and handles. I don't even know if they match and guess what, don't really care. Don't really think anyone will be looking at the hinges on the door, but rather the beautiful glass. LOL

Thanks!! I love them too--wish we could have gone for replacing all the floors to hickory, but there was just too much good oak to rip it all out and throw it away! It hard to answer the stain question....I am having maple cabinets with a cherry stain, so I wanted a contrast. Well, I don't think I got what I was hoping for there, but our friends doing the floor said I would like the lighter natural stain for a couple years and then it would turn too yellow. So we started experimenting with colors and came up with this. It's about 1/2 "Provincial" and the other 1/2 is divided between neutral and cherry to get a red hint helping us to get in the same color family as the cabs. It is the same stain on both floors--but looks very different. Now I love the floors, but am having angst about the cabs.... Always obsessing about something!! :( Hope I didn't hijack the thread too much..... Ebse: You can't go wrong. Quartersawn was suggested to us, (and it is beautiful!!) but when the decision was made our oak floors looked so yukky that I wanted nothing to do with oak of any sort!! Hence the hickory that DH picked out for the floor and the maple cabs I picked out. 101 decisions??? Oh yeah...today we pick granite and lights...Maybe THEN I'll be able to get a paint color I like...The walls look like bad quilts right now!!

ORB is fine. I have chrome for plumbing and despite what Patricia says it is the easiest to keep looking good., I have ORB for doors, and antique brass for lighting and my house is being featured in a national magazine in their February issue. So if it's so dated, why would the magazine be featuring my home with ORB? My opinion is black for doors will wind up dated before ORB as it is so trendy
