Idyll #323 Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days
Comments (105)(((((Eden)))))! I'm so sorry about the damage and you feeling so upset/scared. It's times like this that I wish I lived a skip away from you. I am SO thankful that no one was hurt. A crushed urn and smashed plants(gee and a humongous tree laying over your garden)still are extemely upsetting and I always did admire the sun & moon not to mention your shed(maybe Brad can repair the shed?)! I know you'll find a way to salvage what you can and recreate what you've got~sniff~Earlier today I was viewing garden pics you'd posted and I was ooing and aahing at the results of your hard work. I hope the cleanup shows more things intact than thought. I hope you can get good sleep tonight. In regards to how I had time to post when the kids were little it was pretty easy because I would post at naptime~AJ napped all the way up to age 4 or at least had quiet book reading time. Both boys were very good at independant play so I could take a few moments to post during the day. I also would post at night because Chris was often doing school work. These days we are more on the go in general plus when I'm working the idylls went to the back burner-unfortunately. Poor Chelone-and Rex! I hope your boss is understanding and things go well. ; )I will drink some wine for you-it's the least I can do... I missed an earlier chance to wish you & your helpmeet a happy anniversary~Hope it was fun...did you conserve water like a good girl? lol just kidding. Saucy-I saw the pic of you skiing-you go! If that were me you'd see a pic of the skis over my head and my face would be flopping through the water at high speed: ) I enjoyed seeing the pics of your earlier garden & the present one-I gasped at that later pic-It's beautiful! I also enjoyed seeing your kids-they grew so much! Thanks for showing those pics. I'm really glad you're sticking around here! 'Bug I wanted to tell you that I like Reed's middle name-such a noble name. Hi T!! How are the babies? HAve you had any time to work in your curvy beds? Mary send some of that rain back this way please? Minus high winds, hail or lightening: ) HI NORMA! Better get going, Chelone really needs me to drink that wine NOW. ~Babs...See MoreLazy summer days
Comments (9)Gee, Sandy, I have problems with memory even without anesthesia! Although... I did have my UPPP fix in April... Our summer this year, well, - first, all the weeding and mulching that didn't get done last year when we were renovating DD's house, and I had a very late start due to the rainy weather. - All the waterlilies need repotting, we've only done three so far (ended up with five). Ten or eleven to go. - And we're looking to buy a lot to build a small home on to retire to. Our five-bedroom house was perfect for us and the four kids, but it's too big for us now, and the knees are getting older, so we want to have a one-floor home. If we find the perfect spot, it will have waterfront on a small natural pond, or access to, or at least the view... and/or room for us to put in our man-made ponds and create a new little paradise, like we have now (or better). Surprisingly, there is actually one such piece of heaven for sale, 6 acres, mostly flat hay meadow, with a piece of Shoreland Protection Act between it and the 20 acre pond behind it... only two other houses on the pond... It's a bit further away than I would like, but otherwise it's perfect. We're going to have a second look next weekend. - Cleaning out half of the contents of the house. Bringing it to the dump, the recycling center, or Goodwill, putting it on Craig's list, at the side of the road on Saturdays... - DD and fam from California are coming over for three weeks in August. By which time we should have enough space cleared! They'll switch between us and the other side of the family, and have rented a little place for one week at the ocean. It promises to be lots of fun and busy in spurts. - And all this between family stuff. My dad is doing very poorly. He's 89 and at the end of his life. My sister and I are good with this, but my brother is either in denial or angry. So all the gardening, cleaning and looking for real estate is a welcome escape! :) Mary...See MoreA rainy day--so you're getting the full-boatload!!
Comments (37)Oh, you're welcome, 'shades'!! Anytime! I really thought you had to have a B.A.!! Your gardens are so beautiful and you have such wonderful specimens of so many of the ones we all love. Slugs--ugh!! I know--they do make 'the season' less than stellar--depending on the rain. The rain sure makes the hosta grow and look so hearty but the slugs sure seem to love the rain, and then our hosta as dessert!!! Gak!...See MoreThose lazy, hazy, crazy (HOT) days of Summer...
Comments (20)beachlily, my stepdad had shingles and it was awful, there were days when even the collar on his shirt hurt him. I'm sorry that your hubs has this to deal with too. Hang in there, I'm sending prayers and hugs, as you know. Ruthanna, like you, I don't have air conditioning at all, and I cook outside on the deck sometimes. I should have an awning out there, but I don't. I do have an outside plug, so I put a crockpot out there, or my Nesco roaster or my small countertop "convection oven". I also have a camp stove, so I can make breakfast out there if it suits me and I have canned out there occasionally. I keep threatening to get one of those "screen houses" because the mosquitos here are awful, the people who keep track of such things say it's the worst year for mosquitos in a long time, that we're having the "perfect storm" of heat and wet for them. The bats and barn swallows are loving it, though. It got to be 92 here on Friday and 88 on Saturday, with humidity hovering in the high 80s. I decided to just ignore it and so on Saturday I mowed the lawn, finally cleaned and folded the pool cover, gave the outside trim on the house a coat of Kilz because we're painting the house, and then went inside and canned a batch of Habenero Gold. I figure if it's hot, it just is and a bit more doesn't make a difference. Yesterday I compensated by spending 7 hours in the garden, rototilling, raking and hoeing. There was a decent breeze and it only went up to 84F so it wasn't so bad, but it didn't cool down at night and Elery ended up sleeping on the couch in front of the open sliding door and with the fan blowing With both dogs. His house has air conditioning and so he's not used to it. Annie...See Morenannykins
