Hi, Terra. I agree, it's a pretty room. I'm surprised this dilemma never showed up on the front page. If I'd seen it, I definitely would have Photoshopped it. I'll do a rendering in a minute.

Questions: how big is the TV? And do you find it too high when watching?

Ergonomically speaking, the center of the screen should be at seated eye level. Aesthetically, we usually hang it 5 - 8" (give or take) above its console.

Thanks! Its 55" but we will likely upgrade to 75" at some point to aid in football watching from the kitchen. I don't find it uncomfortable to watch but to be honest, I'm usually laying down when I'm watching tv.

I lowered the TV and sound bar, added a triptych about the appropriate size, then it seemed to me the right side could use something tall for balance. A plant is probably too big, so I added a task lamp.

You have a nice minimalist look going here. I don't think you need to add anything else to the TV/fireplace wall.

That's great, thank you! I don't have an outlet appropriately located for a lamp there but I like the idea of something tall, I will look for something to serve that role.

Any comments/ suggestions on furniture placement, rugs, coffee table etc. We have just moved from a MUCH smaller space and arranging furniture here seems like it should be easy but it does't feel that way!
as far as furniture goes, coffee table will be the first to go. This old ikea beast has served us well but time for it to become a basement dweller.

I gave your coffee table to a starving student and added a rug. You might put a tall skinny plant in the corner, a dracaena, perhaps.

None of the rugs seem quite right, though. Is your fabric couch actually purple?

I'd planned to put it in the adjacent sunroom when I find something more appropriately sized. The current rug in there is in poor condition, the dog used the corners as a chew toy when he was a pup. I'm not sure its big enough for the living room.
The table with leafs is 3'4x8'4", I was thinking 9x12 would be minimum.
so many moving parts here, and no distinct rooms ... no wonder I can't make any decisions!

Your house is beautiful and spacious and you're doing fine so far. Remember, room wasn't built in a day. (It's appropriate to groan at that one.) Sometimes it just takes time to find the perfect rug or art or objet d'art that makes your heart sing.

In the meantime, relax and watch the lovely view from your sunroom and enjoy the journey.
