Help me style my living space!!

We live in Chicago and am looking for help with our kitchen/dining/living combo that gets a lot of use. I don’t want much (if any) color, I love neutrals and texture with whites, beige, light gray, black and metal accents. Will likely get rid of silver chest. Hoping to keep table, chairs, art, end tables and leather ottoman. Everything else is replaceable! Only decisions I’ve made Is to paint this room classic gray by BM. Also ordered new lighting fixture for over table, Lottie in bronze with white shades from Ballard design. HELP!!!

You have nice pieces just a little tweaking needed. Try moving the silver chest to the end of the sofa. It is a bit too big but that might work better. If it doesn’t fit there, will it fit on other side of fireplace?

I think that the Classic gray will really help to lighten the space. You have such a great base to start with! Are you wanting to keep the sofa or replace it

? I noticed it wasn't on your list of items that are staying. The Lottie chandelier has beautiful lines. It is BIG coming in at 49". Are you planning on shortening the height of it by using fewer down rods? What is the size of your table? I think the first thing I would do and this will be easy since you have new paint coming is to pull everything off the walls and decide what is coming back and what isnt. I think mirrors would be nice on either side of the fireplace vs the assortment of smaller photos and silhouettes. Those are making the space look cluttered. So once painted I would start there. Some vertical mirrors on each side.I would;d consider two smaller chests that match to go on either side of the fireplace with the mirrors above them. Keep them shallow so the chair if its staying can still sit in front of it. I also think I would bring in an actual chandelier to the family room space instead of the semi flush mounted one. How high are your ceilings? I would also consider a round end table on the side of the sofa closet to eating area. Everything you have currently is rectangular so I would break that up by bringing in a round table. Have you considered some simple drapery panels for the windows? Mounted high at ceiling height on outside each window so light isnt blocked?

Thankyou, Kim and Robyn! Kimberly, yes, Magnaverde loved my room and said he could move right in. Of course,I'm sure it wouldn't take a week with my three rowdy dogs and he'd move right back out again, but yeah.. he quite liked the space. Told me not to change a thing. Fast forward two years and I found myself in the position of having to make changes. See that furniture in the first photo? My sons' 9 month old pup ate most of it. lol. And what was left I accidently tried to drown. The furniture.. not the dog. (thats a whole other story!) But gosh, I couldn't even yell at her because I didn't actually catch her in the act. When I walked into the room and she grinned at me from the leather chair that had a nice new five inch hole in the arm, she was the only canine in the house with burgundy leather fluff on her teeth. In the course of two weeks, she munched on that chair, my coffee table leg, the back of the cream leather sofa, the woodwork up the stairs, and took a nice big bite out of the drawer front on my pot drawers. Then she went into heat.. which explained her unusually destructive behaviour. I miss the little darling. She has since been spayed, and is living in Australia with our son. Who could get angry at this face? ;)

I would suggest looking for a beautiful rug that you love--it should have at least some of the colors you have already used in your rooms. Use the rug as in "inspiration" and tie-together piece. From your description, I think using your ocean blue in the kitchen area would be nice. What color are the existing walls? You would have to figure out if there is a good stopping point to switch paint colors. Good luck, and we DO want to see pictures.

Ok, that is a very blanket question, are you purely asking for decor advice or are we taking on a major budget and real $$ changes? 1. what is with the white crown trip around the exhaust pipe for the vent hood? 2. a counter depth fridge would help 3. the backsplash is dated the counters are fresh Dining 1. put the table in the center of the room and remove the table cloth 2. center the globe art piece to the wall and lower, in fact, all your pictures need to be much much lower, and the smaller ones need to be grouped together more collage style. master bath 1. replace the counter and faucet 2. paint the cabinets and add hardware 3. frame the mirror 4. tile the floor ( carpet and water dont mix) living room 1. lower the artwork 2. declutter the top of the tv console a bit 3. a round coffee table would help you a lot, possibly even two nesting tables that are small and could be pulled out to use. master bed 1. add some curtains to the windows to soften 2. add some storage like an ottoman at the end of the bed to put the 'junk" in. 3. lower and group photos and art. So far you on track, I like your living room and your art pieces. The new shower doors are pretty!

Thank you!! I love these suggestions, especially for the small chests and mirrors. Agreed it’s too cluttered on walls. Dining table is 68” so hoping Lottie works at 49.” Ceiling hight is 9 1/2 ft. I’d like to keep the end tables (they are only a few years old and are Ethan Allen) but I could relocate the ottoman to family room to break up the rectangles in this room. Do you have an oval or round coffee table recommendation?

I am agreeing with Flo there may be concern over chandelier size. Ballards lists specs as follors

Figuring out the math on this they give you a total of 42" of down rods. Does that mean the fixture portion of the chandelier is only 8.5" tall?? That you can hang it as small as 14.5" ?

Then 68"

minus 49"

equals 19"

divided by 2

equals 9.5" on each end.

I love large chandeliers but this may be pushing it. Hopefully once it arrives it will work!
