IMO appliances should be bought for how you use them and that usually means not from the same maker so stainless works no matter who makes the piece where any color including white is different from each maker. IMO stainless is easy to care for forget all the stainless cleaners and use a micro fiber cloth with a bit of vinegar and hot water wipe in the direction of the grain (yes satinless has a grain) and you are done. I have so much stainless in my kitchen and it takes less than 5 minutes to do it all not any longer than any other color. BTW I mean regular old stainless not black stainless or fingerprint proof stainless.

SS or white, I don't mind either - just not black. Black fridges look, to me, like big coffins sitting in the middle of the kitchen.

Much as I don’t care for stainless myself I think that’s the way to go in is case. White with off-white is a miss for me and though I actually don’t mind black in some cases I don’t think it’s a good choice with ivory.

Stainless. IMHO, white appliances with off-white cabinets make the cabinets look dingy or yellowed, including in those pictured above.

Black appliances often create a "black hole" effect, especially in white Kitchens. They go better with dark cabinets.

Stainless is neutral and goes with just about anything without detracting from other components.

Another vote for stainless. Creamy cabinets and white appliances is not appealing look, imo. And black appliances will stick out like a sore thumb.

Stainless for me, too. I'm just not fond of appliance white combined with soft white or off white cabinets.

Yep, stainless. Off-white, yellow, and beige sound tricky enough. Adding white just doesn't sound good to me at all.

Another vote for stainless. Some people buy special fridge/dishwashers so your cabinetmaker can make a panel to match the cabinets.

No white with off white cabs, stainless is classier.

Stainless would be my choice. I had white appliances about 16 years ago and the handle on my refrigerator drove me crazy after awhile...it turned a lovely icky yellow color. Yuck. If someone *really* wanted white appliances, I'd make sure the handles were all stainless or similar because I can about guarantee they won't be white in 4-5 years otherwise.

I put in a Bosch paneled dishwasher to match the cabinets. I did not use the single pre-made panel but bought a drawer front and cabinet doors to make it look like another base cabinet.

I think having a hidden dishwasher looks better. I regret not getting a paneled fridge now.

BUT, I would go with stainless otherwise. It really does match everything.

OK, so I bought my appliances but haven't gotten them delivered yet since my house is not yet ready, so I can still return something if it turns out to not be good at all.

I chose to buy a white top freezer refrigerator with a smooth finish instead of one of those bumpy ones. Stove, dishwasher, and range hood (when I buy it) are all stainless steel. Why? Based on where the stove and dishwasher are in the layout of my kitchen, they are in more or less the same spot on their respective walls of the L-shaped kitchen, offering a symmetrical look. A stainless steel refrigerator, based on its placement in the layout, would look asymmetrical, so I wanted something in a more similar color to the cabinets.

After making my purchase, I noticed that Craigslist and Facebook are full of people selling white refrigerators so I wonder if I should return mine and get one of those instead. My parents' neighbors also gave me a side by side white refrigerator that is just the width I need, and the height is fine, so I wonder if I should just use that one, but I don't know how it would be transported into the house.

Michelle, that just isn't working in my head. I'd want a stainless fridge. That being said, you're the one who lives there. What matters is how it looks to you. I have a friend who truly loves how her almond-colored fridge looks with her avocado green wall ovens, stove top and hood. LOL, now THAT combination would keep me from sleeping at night!

I think now my question isn't whether I should get an appliance in whatever color, but rather, if I should get a new white refrigerator or a used white refrigerator...but that would be a question for a new thread.

I'd be very hesitant buying used appliances unless you know the actual history. I realize some "used" appliances are almost brand new...and you can possibly negotiate the price. Also, some older appliances are made better than anything new you get today. Still, for me, it would be iffy if I didn't know the truth about the appliance's past. I wouldn't want to worry about transporting/delivery, and getting a warranty of some kind is good.

Coule you get a panel ready refrigerator. Then zero color issues

I personally cannot mix off white with bright white. I'd go stainless.

I vote white! White is sleek and clean looking. Stainless steel shows EVERY STAIN, EVERY DROP OF WATER, EVERY FINGER PRINT, EVERYTHING.

Gotta disagree! I spent much more time keeping white appliances clean in a previous home than I do with our current ss appliances. No comparison.
