I did watch it......beautiful! The home owner seems to be near a busy street/ highway but her use of all the water features almost completely masks the noise. Anything concrete or bronze would not have to be stored. They are materials they would endure the cold as long as water is not in them. The ponds are another matter with the fish who must be heated and fed.

djacobz, the fish (koi or goldfish) can survive winters outside. They can survive as low as 0 degrees as long as there is a hole in the ice. They actually go into a reduced activity state. My friend used to have one. The racoons (or something else) would go "fishing" in the pond late in the season. Because the fish were not as active, the raccoons were able to catch them!

That I did not know....... I thought a heater of some sort was needed! The raccoons are so clever and dextrose so I imagine they easily catch them. I imagine some sort of screening would be needed to prevent that.....poor fish......lol

Screening might have been a good idea. But the raccoons are clever, as you said.

Long ago, when my family stayed at my uncle's cottage, my dad would put his minnows in a minnow bucket that was on a chain and in the lake. Looked like this one:

Well, the raccoons would come at night, open the trap door at the top and eat the minnows! So then they found a way to lock the trap door shut. The raccoons then removed the whole minnow bucket from the lake, tried to get the door open, couldn't and all the water went out of the bucket. And the fish all died! I think they then started to attach the minnow bucket to the boat instead of the dock. Darn raccoons!

So my friends decided to keep the fish inside one winter. Never again! The aquarium required a lot of cleaning. So now they don't keep fish in the pond anymore.
