Comments (7)Thanks gardenweed, I would love some seeds! Now how exactly do I send a bubble envelope?! And thanks to sjc48 for the suggestions. I'm writing down as much info as I can, and with the wonderful people on this forum, I'm going to end up with a novel! Last night I planted out some lavender, forget me nots, coleus, 2 kinds of morning glory, bachelor buttons, alyssum and pansies. I know some people say I should wait a bit for things like the morning glories, but I'm experimenting! I can see myself spending a fortune on seeds this year, but since this is the only thing I'm really spending money on I don't feel so bad! Plus, next year I should have lots left for trading on here. I felt so good putting my containers out last night, and can't wait to do more! A neighbour of mine laughed uncontrollably for a few minutes when I told him what I was doing, can't wait for spring to prove him wrong!! He'll be the first one at my door asking for extras! Thanks again!...See MoreOur SECRET hiding places. 'Did I say that out loud?'
Comments (20)Now that I am well into middle age (assuming I live to be 120), I realize that if I hide it, I forget it, so I might as well pitch it... An old friend of mine who is a long-time well-regarded interior designer here has a big dining room in her Victorian town house, and for as long as I can remember, she has had a huge round table in there covered with a rather gorgeous upholstery-grade floor length cloth. She puts a liner and a linen cloth over it for dinner parties. She had the legs and top cut for her out of something plain and ordinary, and she hides huge amounts of stuff under there. Our house, also a Victorian town house, has the most ridiculous closet in the dining room...picture a wall with 11-foot ceilings, a tall window in the right hand corner, and a little Smurf door less than 6 feet high in the left hand corner...the door opens to an 18-inch deep closet that runs back behind the wall for about seven feet with a clothes pole and shelf at the 5-foot height. Sort of like a pizza box up on its side. So I decided to store the out-of-season clothes in zippered bags made of something like Tyvek stacked up in the far back, and I hang tablecloths on hangers above them. I found a very skinny 22-inch wide mesh rolling cart with four basket-shelves at The Container Store, and I bought two...they just clear the doorway side to side, and two will fit the depth of the closet. I put one behind the other just inside the door, with small serving dishes and cloth napkins I use for dinner parties rolled up on cardboard tubes in the front one, and light bulbs and extension cords in the back one. I'm still working on how to use the shelf, and the space above the little carts....See Moreunder bed storage
Comments (3)I packed and decluttered a great deal before I put our house on the market, and I think you are underestimating by far the amount of stuff you will have to store. I used a POD to hold my things while the house was on the market. Sure, it was a pain moving everything into the POD then back out of the POD onto our rental truck, but PODS didn't service my new area so that's simply how it was. I staged every square inch of my home- every closet, every cabinet, and every shelf had two of whatever item belonged there. Every paintable surface was painted and that included inside every closet and the garage. There was not one thing out of place and I am firmly of the belief that it is why our home sold very quickly in an area where homes just were not selling. When we sold it was also much easier to box up the remaining things as the bulk of the packing was long since done. It is an undertaking- my painting, prep, and staging took me the better part of two months but looking back it was so much worth it as some of the comps I was in competition with are still sitting there for sale at literally one third of what we got for ours. For me it all boils down to one thing- how badly do you want to sell? I had to sell, so I tried to leave no stone unturned- I even staged my yard and there wasn't as much as a dead leaf on a tree :)...See Morerolling underbed storage drawer
Comments (3)All you need is a box. Buy some dimension lumber and cut to length. The corners can be mitered, biscuited, rabbetted, or simply butted and nailed. If you want to get fancy, you can use a dovetail jig and cut dovetails or finger-joints as shown in the link below. If it's not too big, you can use 1/4" plywood for the bottom. If it's larger, you should bump up to 3/8". You can either nail or crown staple the base on, or cut a groove all around about 1/4" from the bottom edge of the sides and glue it in place. For a pull, use any sort of drawer pull you like, or cut out a U-shaped cutout for your hand to fit. The link below shows wheels (I have no association with them other than a customer) Here is a link that might be useful: Wheels...See Moremindshift
