Comments (4)This is one of the cutest plants on the planet IMO, but I've had problems with it too. I received a piece from a GW member a couple of years ago and at first it seemed to do really well potted. Then it went into stall mode. When I took it out of the pot, most of the roots were gone. Fortunately the plant still looked to be in good shape. For repotting, I finally settled on using one of my square basket thingies I make from the plastic waffle grating we use in our drip trays. I made a tiny one about 1 1/2 inches square, mounded some sphag in it and put the plant on top. Right now it's growing lots of new roots, so I hope this works long-term. Like I said, this plant is absolutely adorable in and out of bloom. Well worth the effort. Kevin...See MoreIs anyone contemplating a cat adoption soon?
Comments (3)I love my Bengals. I never had a particular breed of cat before. Some of them are much prettier than others. Once you have one though, I have to say you forget about how they look and fall in love with their personalities. My mom lost our family cat over the summer (age and kidneys). We were thinking about doing a Bengal rescue for her once she was ready. A friend of ours (who's allergic to cats) had started feeding a stray/feral at her work for about a year. It took her that long to catch her and get her into her office. Well, she ended up becoming the 'office cat' for the past 3 months. She was very lonely on weekends and evenings but the office was better than a shelter. She was a long haired cat (not my preference). But I went over to meet her just the same. I hadn't expected to see such a beautiful, cute cat. And her personality was to die for. So, mom has adopted her. It turns out she is a Maine Coon cat! I recognized it in her immediately. I was just reading about the breed last night. They are surprisingly similar to the Bengal cat. I can't believe we ended up with another 'crazy personality' cat! That's what I wanted for her to take her mind off her loss. I will get a picture posted of her when I get the camera up and running. I never really thought about purebred cats before. It was interesting when I started watching the Animal Planet cat specials. If you want a particular type of personality or look, selecting a purebred is a nice way to try to match what you are looking for. All of my cats have been 'mutts' and their personalities have been a mystery until they grow. In the meantime, have a closer look at "Uno" in Florida :)! He's got a 'pelt' to die for! And I say pelt because the Bengal has a unique type of fur, they feel very silky. If you ever get a chance to pet one you'll see what I mean. He's one big cat, too! I think he's sitting in a dog bed, lol! Here is a link that might be useful: Who's going to take me home?...See MoreContemplating New Construction - Advice/Warnings?
Comments (28)Ideally, I would not undertake this within two years of having a new baby. It is a stressful process and may result in some degree of marital tension (ahem). My husband and I discovered that our approaches to decision-making are completely different. One of us wants to get it right, and the other wants to get it done. Both approaches have advantages and drawbacks, but nothing highlights this difference more than trying to build a house together. On top of that, we went through most of the process of buying a lot, choosing a design+build firm, designing a floor plan, and almost all of the construction while living out of state from where we were building! In the end (it's been 16 months since we started the process and we're about a week from completion), it has been both better and worse than we thought it would be. But if I had my way, I would STILL be tweaking that floor plan......See MoreContemplating covered deck on new build. Thoughts?
Comments (11)I like the idea of the covered deck. Especially if you plan to use the outdoor space a lot. With those views I can imagine sitting on the covered deck listening to the pitter patter of rain! Or in the summer evenings you could have it decorated with pretty lighting. It just depends on what you would use the space for. If you don’t plan to use your deck a lot maybe you should remove the covered portion so more light can get into the living room. Not to be picky but one of your windows is behind a porch post not sure why it isn’t joined with the other two?...See MoreJon 6a SE MA
