Pinks, Peaches and Creams, oh my!!!
Comments (29)Holy Cow! All these in spite of your "heat and humidity and lack of rain"???!! Up here those same conditions have slowed down blooming and reduced size of blooms as well. Do you have multiples of every rose or are some of those vase fulls collected from one single plant? I simply can't imagine having so many absolutely gorgeous and unspoiled blooms all at one time. Seriously. *Sigh* Thank you so much for your photos of rose heaven (beautiful vases, too!)...See MoreEarth Angel and Peach Swirl
Comments (7)Peach Swirl (TEXpeaswi), a hybrid tea rose introduced in the US by Texas Rose Ventures (2017). Edmund’s' Roses has one of the best descriptions for this amazing rose, "Lavish swirls of peach, apricot and creamy yellow create a breathtaking display. Like a scoop of delectable ice cream, the large fragrant blooms of this phenomenal rose are a delight for the senses; one look, one whiff, and you can't help but come back for seconds. Long canes make this rose perfect for cutting so the decadence of the blooms can be indulged upon indoors, as well." . . This rose has everything one can ask for in a rose and more, beauty, form, fragrance, health, vase life... It belongs in my perfect rose category. Helen...See MoreBolero or earth angel
Comments (22)Earth Angel is tall, 3+-', and black spot proof. It's, unfortunately, a baller in wetter climates like here in Pittsburgh, but in a dry climate or during a dry spell in a wetter climate it is unparalled in beauty if you like very cupped, goblet shaped blooms. Very fragrant and long lasting blooms, if not weather damaged, are produced in moderation, not profusely like Bolero's. Bolero is a black spotter here, but a profuse bloomer, more abundant in bloom than EA. It's bloom gear is in overdrive. The bush is short here, about 20+-" tall. The blooms can nod and crisp, and their form is not as captivatingly unusual as are Earth Angel's, buy still have a presence. Fragrance is tops. Moses...See MoreIs Lichfield Angel an octopus?
Comments (18)What a timely question for me, Suzanne. Dianella, yours are so pretty. I have a Lichfield Angel that really needs planting, (along with many others.) I’m thinking Lichfield Angel will appreciate some afternoon shade in So CA. I hope I’m correct about giving LA some shade. Perdita was given a prime afternoon shade spot, and doesn’t appreciate it a bit. It’s obvious to me now that Perdita wants full sun, even in So CA. Other roses are just fine around Perdita, but Perdita is really sulking there. Lichfield Angel is so lovely, and mine has been waiting a long time to be freed from captivity. I hope LA will be happy in Perdita’s spot. That’s one less hole to dig. Dianella, you’ve made me SO glad I gave Benjamin Britten to my sister! Please don’t be offended, Dianella. BB looks great in your yard. I was given one, and the dear lady wouldn’t take no for answer. It’s not in my color range, so my sister is growing it in Hanford, CA ,(between Bakersfield and Visalia.) I should ask her how large Benji has gotten by now. BB probably would have been a monster here, by now. Glad I dodged that bullet, as I have no room for more monsters. I’m glad I don’t have to add BB to my list of roses that require multiple heavy prunings per year. I already have enough roses that need constant cutting back to stay somewhat orderly, and I’m not looking for extra work. I’m glad to hear that Lichfield Angel doesn’t throw out those octopus arms. I have enough of those to deal with, as well. I dearly love my Molineux, but I don’t get black spot here. It’s constantly blooming, and I love the color range. It’s even blooming today. My only surprise is that I expected Molineux to remain smaller. Molineux has only been in the ground for about a year, and is 5-6F tall. It might need a yearly summer trim, along with the usual January pruning. Molineux bush right now. It’s time for Molineux to be pruned, but I’ll wait until this flush is finished. There are so many buds, I can’t bear to do it yet. Lisa...See MoreBenT (NorCal 9B Sunset 14)
