Please, help to Decorate a corner of the Dining Room

Hi, we need advices for the dining room. We would like to put a picture in the corner of our Dining room, but we don't know what kind of paint, colors, size, frame, etc. We look for a modern and cozy style. Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Look around and find something you like -- visit some local galleries in your region and talk to the artists. Your style is modern and minimalist, and you will find an artist that has produced the same elements. In the meantime, I would suggest a large floor plant that will love that corner, fill it with color, and thrive in the filtered light.

Took another trip to Sherwin Williams store to look at colors. I must have been looking pitiful and frustrated because the sales rep there gave me paint chip deck to take home :). Probaly should have done this to begin with to see what the chips look like at my house with my lighting. Would have saved some money I'm sure! Also on the advice of others went to TJ Maxx Homestore and Kirklands today to looks at pictures and rugs. Not trying to rush but would love to have my dining room done as soon as possible!

When it comes to hanging art, keep in mind those Velcro Command Strips. I use them to hang almost everything and they don't damage the walls. They hold a surprising amount of weight. That metal scrollwork would probably take one nail, but most artwork, unless the frames are really heavy, can be hung with the command strips. I'm not so sure the metal piece is "farmhouse." Rustic, probably. When I think farmhouse, though, I don't think of that type of piece. I think you can do better, but if you really LOVE it, then go for it! I do like the upholstered ottoman but I like yayagal's coffee table suggestion even better! It will definitely help set the farmhouse tone you want.

Do you own or is this a rental? The pix look a little stretched like realty ones. Since there is a rad between the doors, forget putting TV there. I'd keep the dining close to the kitchen and put the sitting/TV area to focus on the long wall. Start with the fun project of finding a knockout chandelier to hang from that pretty ceiling. Is there a fridge under the microwave? I see only one wall outlet behind the door and one above the counter, so you'll have to use extension cords and cord covers along the baseboards to have enough lighting here. Consider floating your sofa facing the long wall and TV. Then use a drop leaf table behind it for dining. You'll be able to open it all the way for entertaining. Anchor your seating area with a rug 2-3 feet wider than your sofa.

Lovely space. I'd fill those cabs sparsely, just because I don't like my good china on display in the dining room. So for me, a few books stacked flat, small sculpture, a beautiful bowl, a painting that no one needs to look at much (or closely), some vases might lurk behind the glass. One fabulous tureen that never gets used....umm,guess you can tell I'm typing and looking at my corner cabs at the same time! Some one else might feature a prized collection of most anything. Legos to monsters. I recall a picture where someone featured her handbags. Basically,all the ideas you might put on open shelves will work here,too. As would papering or painting the backs of the cabs. Guess the point is to keep it authentically YOU. And as others have mentioned,no need to rush. I would put the art 5" above the buffet and eliminate the mirror. Maybe a tryptich would work. Add art under the table with a great rug. Put a big plant in the corner.

Hi Everybody,

Thank you so much for your responses! I’ll mix the different ideas: I'll hang the mirror vertically in the corner and I hang the piece of art above the buffet. I like also the idea of the rug but I have kids and it’s really difficult to keep it clean. Do you have another alternative? Concerning the piece of art, 1 or 2 or 3 pieces? Should it cover the wide of the buffet ?
