which backsplash to go with countertop?
Comments (27)Gray ceramic tile is a good choice, but if the island gray and the tile gray have different undertones, which will most likely be the case, they'll look pretty bad together. We haven't seen your island paint so we can't tell you which tile looks better. And we'd need to see the tile in your kitchen with the island, counter, and lighting installed and even then, we can only go by what each of us sees on our individual computer monitors....See Morewhich backsplash?
Comments (10)Wood cabinets with grain, tone variations and / or knots have "movement". Your countertop choice looks like it will also have movement, and also your floor. That is too much movement even if all the surfaces are individually lovely. There is no place for the eye to rest. Add to that the stuff of life that is often on the kitchen counters, and the look becomes too busy. The small mosaic tile backsplash are the most frequently removed splash after being installed - what looks pretty in a 12 x 12 sheet can be overwhelming and optically difficult. Your choices are more understated than most, but still I think you would be better off for the overall look of your kitchen to go with something simple. Also, do not pick your backsplash until your countertop is installed. Then you will start to have the big picture of ow the surfaces are coming together. I was originally going to go with white subway tiles because they looked great with the counter, but once installed I realized white would be too stark next to my wood cabinets and went with cream. Other wood cabinets have a wood tone that works better with white. https://www.houzz.com/photos/my-pics-work-in-progress-phvw-vp~57088087 https://www.houzz.com/photos/my-pics-work-in-progress-phvw-vp~58830325 I almost used a stone like this but it did not look right with my counter: This small tile backsplash works with the wood because it is very understated - little color variation and warm in tone. You need to see the enlarged picture to get a good look: The cabinet tone here looks good with the white - which lets the countertop and rich wood be the stars: Larger tiles and contrasting grout can liven a plain backsplash - but be careful not to get too busy or too much a contrast with wood cabinets. When the tile is installed, but before it is grouted, there will be the illusion of a contrasting grout - a good way to assess how that would look in your space:...See MoreWhich backsplash tile would you choose?
Comments (7)It may help you to visualize the pieces together by orienting them in their correct planes. Lay the countertop sample down horizontally, then the backsplash tile should stand vertically behind the back edge of the counter sample with the cabinet sample to the side of the backsplash tile. These are the planes they will be in your kitchen. Backsplash tile looks quite different laying flat. Hopefully you can do this in your own kitchen so the light will be realistic, and not fluorescent lights in the store. I think the grayer or off white tiles might look nicer. White cabinets can be difficult to match to white tile, but you may find a good match that will be your preference. Take a good picture of your samples in your kitchen and let us weigh in! It's going to be beautiful!...See MoreWhich backsplash in the kitchen?
Comments (13)Thank you for all of your comments. The pictures must have been misleading because the dark tiles are green not black, they were chosen to coordinate with the green in the Uba Tuba. It was always my primary goal to get something that coordinated with the granite. I never intended to match everything in the room. I just included a similar flooring to make sure they all looked good together. I am not a big fan of plain white subway tiles with white cabinets. To me it is just too much white. I like white subway tiles with gray cabinets but not with white. My designer/contractor and I went over these options at length today and we decided to go with the glass subway tile. I think it will be a good option since it isn't too dark, and it has the traditional subway tile shape, but with a more modern design. I don't think my picture above did it justice. We will be installing under cabinet lighting which should make the sparkle in the tile and granite both stand out depending on how bright you have it set. Lighting can make the tile look very different. I'm sorry I didn't have a larger sample of Uba Tuba to demonstrate with the various options but it appears this tile will look great with it. Here are some pictures that are more zoomed in with brighter light that should give you a better idea of what the tile will look like....See Morekariyava
