It doesn't have to be dark, and not all of the choices are. I just didn't want it to be too plain. I would like for it to have a little bit of a wow factor...lol! Perhaps a good compromise then would be the gray subway tile with the basketweave pattern. The tile is mounted on a black board it doesn't come that way, it was the sample from the store.

Ubatuba is a dark green stone, sometimes with some gold spidery veins; it's tones are warm. Have you selected the slab? Be sure it really works with the other elements.

I think of the ones you posted, perhaps the 4th one down could work. I agree that you need to see the colors of the slab you pick, to make sure it is harmonious to the backsplash tile. I happen to love uba tuba ( I had something similar and it is a dream to live with). I just think the other tiles you shared are too dark.

I like the first and last, both for interest and for tying in the lighter tones. None of the blacks, patterned or not -- you'll feel like there's a huge dark crevasse running around your room. My favorite is the first one.

I agree with Skippack - you have a lot of cool toned materials that may fight with the warm tones in the Uba Tuba. It's going to look a lot different when there's a big expanse of it than it does when you just see a small sample.

lets see the cabinets and hardware, moldings? the cabinet doors will have character and the hardware will affect all this to harmonize properly otherwise sensory overload.

Yes, to what JAN MOYER said! I would revisit some more subtle options and get a larger granite sample. I would take a cabinet door sample and floor sample to the granite yard first. This will show you the movement and additional colors that you are unable to see on that small sample. Also, it feels like you are trying to match your backsplash with all the elements, including the stainless steel appliances. I would focus on one other element to coordinate the backsplash with. For example, the floor or the cabinets. Some of these materials need to relate to each other. You don't want all the elements to stand alone and hope they work.

Thank you for all of your comments. The pictures must have been misleading because the dark tiles are green not black, they were chosen to coordinate with the green in the Uba Tuba. It was always my primary goal to get something that coordinated with the granite. I never intended to match everything in the room. I just included a similar flooring to make sure they all looked good together. I am not a big fan of plain white subway tiles with white cabinets. To me it is just too much white. I like white subway tiles with gray cabinets but not with white. My designer/contractor and I went over these options at length today and we decided to go with the glass subway tile. I think it will be a good option since it isn't too dark, and it has the traditional subway tile shape, but with a more modern design. I don't think my picture above did it justice. We will be installing under cabinet lighting which should make the sparkle in the tile and granite both stand out depending on how bright you have it set. Lighting can make the tile look very different. I'm sorry I didn't have a larger sample of Uba Tuba to demonstrate with the various options but it appears this tile will look great with it. Here are some pictures that are more zoomed in with brighter light that should give you a better idea of what the tile will look like.

I think your Number 4 option is best. At least 50 percent light to dark. The pattern is not too busy, and won't give anyone motion sickness. These waves are cool to look at, but I think I would throw up after 6 months of living with them...tooo much movement. Maybe you could use 1 width, of them amongst your Number 4 pattern, but that would case alot of cutting and waste of tile perhaps? If you did just a standard square white ceramic backsplash tile, a white that is similar to your cabinets, than you could use a single width band of the white or perhaps the gray, wave on your backsplash and that line would be no higher, than the lower line of your kitchen backsplash outlets? BUT no more...
