Hannah, Yellowing between the veins of older leaves generally indicates a lack of a transportable nutrient, such as Magnesium. What is the analysis of the Plantacote? It could be that it is too slow releasing for the needs of the A. x calidora. These plants are very vigorous and that means they need enough nutrients to sustain that growth. Otherwise, they will decline and die down or out. I give my host of Alocasia hybrids a soluble fert solution every week and I use a higher nitrogen mix as well, occasionally supplementing with extra iron and manganese. Even under these conditions, some of mine get a little pale from time to time, especially in the summertime growing months. Many, if not most, of these Alocasia like well draining soil mix as well, so if your soil is heavy and wet, that might be part of the problem. Healthy roots are a must for proper nutrient uptake. There are a lot of different cultivars of c esculenta. It is said to be the oldest plant cultivated by man. It's known as Taro and a lot of other names and it is a food plant all over the world. I have about five of them growing and someday soon I intend to eat one. john

ACK!! It has two blooms!!! Where are the snippers?? I have not put it in the ground yet, but was planing for a very sheltered spot that gets very bright shade most of the day and late afternoon sun. Anyone have any opinions about this????

Hi EE gets my award as the most overused name right up the with "Lily" and "orchid like" lol There are hundreds of species plus many hybrids of several families all lumped together as Elephant ears. To my knowledge all are tropical none will tolerate freezing . I grow around 20 varieties . Since I live in s. florida never have freezes but they drop right at frost but return .If the ground froze I;d suspect they would rot?? Since there are sooo many types all called EE there may be some that I'm not aware of?? Certainly not in the main families of Alocasia Colocasia Xanthosoma ,Caladium. which are the usual kinds called EE Get a latin name and then you can look up the specific plant?? gary
