A traveling elephant ear?? Help me ID this plant!

I got this plant from a mixed bag auction on ebay. The person selling it called them Traveling Elephant Ears, but I can't find anything about that plant on the internet. The plants don't come from a bulb or corm, they are just a root mass like a perennial or annual. They also have all these little shoots coming off of them that root and grow new plants. It is very vigorous (to say the least!) and I love it, but I'd like to know more about it!

Any help that can be provided in identifying this plant would be greatly appreciated!

I can't see your pics, but the plant commonly called Travelling EE is Remustaria or something like that, I think I misspelled that

Hannah, Yellowing between the veins of older leaves generally indicates a lack of a transportable nutrient, such as Magnesium. What is the analysis of the Plantacote? It could be that it is too slow releasing for the needs of the A. x calidora. These plants are very vigorous and that means they need enough nutrients to sustain that growth. Otherwise, they will decline and die down or out. I give my host of Alocasia hybrids a soluble fert solution every week and I use a higher nitrogen mix as well, occasionally supplementing with extra iron and manganese. Even under these conditions, some of mine get a little pale from time to time, especially in the summertime growing months. Many, if not most, of these Alocasia like well draining soil mix as well, so if your soil is heavy and wet, that might be part of the problem. Healthy roots are a must for proper nutrient uptake. So I have an idea. Big Lots carries outdoor containers/pots that have no drainage holes. That always bugged me... until today! I'm wondering if they would be perfect? From what I am reading, colocasia like it very wet - in fact you can submerge them in pots in water/pond. I would like to stick these in the ground, but I do not want to deal with runners and an invasive plant. I think I am going to pick up a couple of those very cheap pots at Big Lots and sink those in the ground with my new bulbs. Help me - is there anything bad about this idea? Carol

Evelyn- I have this same EE...I think that I must have gotten it from you. It is in a pot. It seems like a death sentence if I plant it in the yard. It certainly isn't reaching it's full potenial in the shade house BUT it is still alive for which I'm grateful.

ACK!! It has two blooms!!! Where are the snippers?? I have not put it in the ground yet, but was planing for a very sheltered spot that gets very bright shade most of the day and late afternoon sun. Anyone have any opinions about this????

It's Colocasia Escuelenta "Ruffles". There's also a black form.

Oh yes I can see it now.
I can see why they would call it travelling EE, because it is invasive here in FL and other warm states, LOL. I think they have even placed it on our noxious weed list, but its very nice if you keep it contained. Yours looks great!

There are a lot of different cultivars of c esculenta. It is said to be the oldest plant cultivated by man. It's known as Taro and a lot of other names and it is a food plant all over the world. I have about five of them growing and someday soon I intend to eat one.
