Single Electric Wall Oven: WHY is it so hard to find a good one?
Comments (30)Although it seems a tangent, bear with me: I recently purchased a stick blender for my mother's birthday, the one I gave her years ago having bitten the proverbial dust. I started research on Amazon, only to find similar sorts of problems with this small appliance as those outlined in the original post here, i.e. so many brands either got glowing reviews or horror stories for the very same product. Quality seemed to be a roll of the dice, no matter how much you paid. I finally chose a popular brand, knowing that the blender could suddenly tank, but also knowing that reviewers said the customer service was outstanding. So, if we're left with mediocrity from the more accessible electric wall oven brands (like Bosh or Electrolux vs the costy Wolf), which have been most responsive when people have had a problem? Kitchenaid seems to have failed roundly in this respect over the past few years, so even if they've solved their problems, they aren't the brand for me. Comments (14)Why is it so hard to find Navy & Tan decor? I adore dark blues like navy and midnight and I think a beautiful dark blue is one of the few colors that is worthy of the titles, "timeless" and "classic". It's just not 'in trend' right now. Not so long ago, the navy, burgundy, tan, and hunter green combo was a blazing hot color trend. Fast forward to today, and navy blue by association and in combination with those other colors has an unseemly cachet  unseemly in a way that can only be achieved by being a part of an insanely popular color trend. And when it comes to trends, you're either in or you're out (as Heidi says on Project Runway). Unfortunately navy blue has been "out" and only creeps into product lines on rare occasions. I think if you look closely, a pattern arises in that navy is the go-to color whenever the goal is to design something "masculine" or "nautical". Apparently, it is welcome to support a theme of sorts but on it's own, navy hasn't been invited too many places lately. Personally, I love navy blue and think it's a super choice especially when black brings too darn much drama or dark brown's coziness just isn't sophisticated enough....See MoreWhy is it so hard to decide on faucets?
Comments (18)Countrygal, My sinks were pretty cheap so the faucet side of my sink/faucet budget was pretty loose (I've seen $2000 faucets online that are beyond it, but I could basically have anything in the showroom). For my main sink, I got the MGS Vela VED-M. The pulldown spray feels so good! It fits perfectly in the hand, and the finish feels yummy, and the weight of it is just right. It's not big (I hope it doesn't look dinky with the big sink), but it has beautiful lines. It also has a top notch reputation for craftsmanship and reliability. For the keyhole shaped island sink (Kohler bordelaise), I got a Kohler Karbon. It bends to where you want it, which is perfect for the odd shaped sink. And it also has a button for spray. I love the way the carbon fibre shafts feel too. For the laundry room, after the more classic model faucet I'd chosen turned out to be discontinued, I got the Elkay Arezzo. I just love this one. It's not particularly elegant, but the whole thing swivels, not just the spout, and it's so much fun!! It's just an ordinary chrome faucet, but it also feels good and is fun to touch. It's too bad you don't have a showroom where you can touch your possibles. I didn't really stress over the looks of the Vela. I mean, it's simple and classic and I like it, but I didn't worry about finish or height or anything. One feel and I kept going back to pet it......See MoreWhy is a backsplash so hard to choose?
Comments (78)Basically from a professional stand point, I deal with this dilemma on a daily basis. In my opinion having multiple levels of contrast really makes a kitchen stand out. What I mean is that the flooring should be opposite color from the cabinets, the counter top should match the floors, but the backsplash should tie all the elements together. I personally don't like when the floors, cabinets, countertop, and backsplash all match too much. For me to give my honest opinion on which backsplash I would put in my house, I would have to know the color of the floors and cabinets. However, without seeing those factors, I like the backsplash on the right more since it has more contrast then the option on the left, but still maintains similar colors too the counter. Regardless of my opinion, there is no real rule to this and is just my personal preference. Good luck on you decision. -Deluxe Vanity...See MoreTHOR, Son of ODIN
