Thanks for posting the contest winners. Such creativity and imagination! I live in PeepLand because our valley is the home of Just Born Candies, creator and manufacturer of Peeps. They sponsor a PeepFest during the week between Christmas and New Year's. There is a Peep diorama contest for elementary school classes and the winning projects are on display. This was a first grade one: The PeepMobile puts in an appearance. Outdoor activities include toasting Peeps for Peep S'mores. Massive Peep sculptures: And a giant lighted Peep who descends from the building at midnight during a family-friendly New Year's Eve celebration. Well, that's a silly question! (I'll have to wait until next payday though!). I would like to plant a White Adriatic Fig this year, I've been waiting 'til the cool weather sets in properly. Yeah, the housesitting is going ok, I prefer the hills in the cooler months anyway, I like the fog hanging 'round in the morning. I'm about to stoke up the fire, brew up a coffee and watch the pardalotes playing in the bird bath, then I'll go talk to the chooks for a bit, and marvel at the stupidity of the sheep and ponder the knowing looks of the cows, before I'm sure it will be time for another cup of coffee! There is no veggie patch here (!!!), seems I have yet to 'get' to my friends - who think that its too cold in the hills to get a decent tomato crop (??!!!). I've never actually bought anything directly from Daley's - for the same reasons you state, but I've found them to be a good source of info none-the-less. cheers, mudlark ps: I am nursing those native capers that my friend grew, if they survive (looking a little shakey at the moment) you are welcome to have one.

Silenteyespy do you mean named truncata or different by looks? I have Youp, on the left, second back from the front. Yellow in the back hanging basket. I also have some schlumbergera buckleyi there, the basket in the front on the right is from my plant from 1978. Orange Devil from Whitton greenhouses Sunset Dancer, also from Whitton Red from lowe's, extra pointy leaves, lol White from lowes, wider pointy leaves Pink from a local garden center, this gets a really large flower This should be fuchsia, from eBay, showed a bloom that looked like a buckleyi flower (yes, I know it's Truncata :) ) I'm anxious for this to open. Magenta from walmart White from a local nursery, rounder pointed leaves Please excuse my floors, my house was built in 1860 and I'm working in there. :)

You have the perfect system. Look at those roots! I tried one year to copy you by doing the same in my garage, but the Hyacinths bloomed squatty and low to the bulb. It's unheated, but maybe the garage got too warm? I wasn't sure what would cause that. Now that I have an outdoor shed, I should try it again? They bring such a lovely fragrance into the home while it's still cold and snowy outside, and I would like to have that again.
