Still looking for the right rug ...
Comments (16)Lori, based on my many rug mistakes, unless I'm dealing with a traditional persian or Oriental rug, which tend to stand on their own regardless, then my best rug choices were when the primary colors in the room were secondary colors in the rug. This is why I found your new, big rug posted the other day too monochromatic. The blue runner above doesn't work because there is no other blue in the room and it doesn't have secondary colors that coordinate with other elements in your room. Your current rug which may be too small or not the style you're seeking, works well visually because it seems in the first photo above to have secondary colors that complement your walls and furniture. My vote would be a sisal rug, as suggested above, or a rug that has your wall, drapery and furniture colors (all or at least 2 of them) as secondary colors in the rug... not the primary backdrop color of the rug. Your latest post with the dining room with cream chairs seems like the rug would work well in your LR....See MoreRug placement ideas
Comments (0)Rugs are the perfect way to add colour and texture to any space at home. But sometimes, choosing the right rug for our space can get a bit tricky. We need to consider not only style, colours or materials, but also think of how are we going to place it. In this post, we are going to talk about a few things you need to keep in mind when buying a rug. And we also bring you some rug placement ideas to help you get inspired! Ready? BEFORE BUYING A NEW AREA RUG Find the perfect size – In order to create a balanced space, your rug should be the element that connects and ties everything together in the room. To find the right rug, consider both the size of your space and the furniture. An undersized rug will make the room look smaller. Choosing the largest possible size that fits will help you to unify and define your space. On the other hand, using painting tape to mock the rug placement before buying it will help you to visualize the final result. What about the design? – Not feeling like following the latest trends? If you are in doubt of what colour or style will fit better with your preexisting decor, it’s better to go for a neutral and timeless colour. Warm-off white, light grey, cream or linen are just a few samples. Flat weave or braided are some of the most used textures. RUG PLACEMENT IDEAS Living Room If you opt for a smaller rug (5 x 8 feet), you can keep all legs of the furniture off and positioned around the outer edges of the rug. For bigger rugs, keeping front legs on the inner edges of the rug will help you to connect the furniture and give a perfect sense of proportion to the entire space. Bedroom Place your rug perpendicular under the bottom two-thirds of your bed. This is the most common rug placements, with enough of the rug reaching out on the sides and in front to place your feet comfortably when getting out of bed or sitting at the foot. If you room is bigger enough, you can also place the rug under the bottom one-third of the bed and place two occasional chairs facing the foot side of your bed. Comments (18)Happy to help, a 9 x 12 will be best. Think about how you use your current family room. Do you have friends over for movie night or games? If you can seat at least 5, preferably 6 you will be happier with the space. You can have 2 swivel chairs, one on each side of the sofa. You also have seating at the kitchen island and if you have not purchased those stools yet, look for swivel stools so TV viewing is comfortable from there. The placement on your plan for a 9 x 12 is a bit off...I would center it on the back wall though I realize you may have a piece of furniture on the wall in back of the sofa which is not on your current plan. All the best to you, I am sure that the room will look great.... and I am sure that your husband would love a bigger TV :p PS: Since your room is not very large, do not use large scale furniture and make some templates from newspaper or a brown paper roll from the Hardware store in the size of the furnishings you are considering to make sure that you will be happy with the layout and have enough room for the pieces you like. It will make it easier for you to visualize the space, and the furniture placement....See MoreHelp with finding the right rug for my twins' bedroom?
Comments (2)How sweet! :) I think this looks so cute and soft: https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-carved-polka-dot-shag/Ivory/200OZOT02A-2808.html?srcid=GSN&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIntSNhKrA9AIVdxPUAR1ftgmiEAQYAyABEgJCmvD_BwE The fun colors work without being too busy, I think: Of course any solid color would work, too, either neutral or more bold. https://rugs.com/yellow-9x12-marrakesh-shag-area-rug-6288714?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsu_6lazA9AIVtxTUAR2p7woEEAQYAyABEgKAG_D_BwE...See MoreAngie K
