$10K for L-shaped kitchen+island-what would you do?
Comments (12)I just got very lucky and found cabinets with shaker style doors ON SALE. I have an "L" shaped kitchen about 175" total and I'm putting in approx. 16 cabinets: top and bottom. White painted maple, dove tailed constructions, silent shut drawers, full overlay, for less than $5,000. The cabinets are Mid Continental. I looked them up online and they're reputable although not often heard of. It's the Hartford style doors. They have a square recessed panel with a rectangle frame although they have two other styles they consider Shaker. I didn't mind compromising to save over $2,000 which was the cost of the true shaker doors (they call one Concord). You can look them up and find a dealer and see if they also have a sale....See MoreAisle width/clearance around an island
Comments (5)Sorry about the terrible image. I'm trying to upload a better version, but its a pdf file and GW won't let me attach pdfs so I had to scan it instead and that was the best I could do. I need someone more adept at the Apple computer to help me. So frustrated! Anyway what is the minimum distance that you would do between any island and perimeter countertop?...See Moreisland countertop that would go with Carrara marble in kitchen?
Comments (9)Thank you. I have a wood top on my island now but it is Jatoba/Brazilian cherry & I didn’t like the red tones so have been trying to bleach and sand it to lighten. It’s proving to be a challenging project! It was previously treated just with Tung oil which does have an ambering effect. What oils do you use on the wood? Comments (21)thanks @Jean that's a really good idea to put the pantry beside the dishwasher. The reason why I put the pantry there is because it is actually in front of where they plan on putting the HVAC and plumping. So the pantry is actually shallower than it might appear. the fridge would stick out like crazy if it went there. I'm not really sure where else to put the HVAC. It is potentially possible to move the HVAC. Maybe then we could swap the pantry and fridge locations, since nothing is in stone yet. Do you think that is a better way? I like the idea of people going to get stuff from the fridge without bothering me in the aisle, haha....See Morezmith
