What do I need to know to replace central air conditioner
Comments (5)To be clear I did NOT say that they INSTALLLED the $30 thermostat for $200. I said they sold me a $30 thermostat for $200! The INSTALLATION and the SERVICE CALL were TOTALLY different charges so the whole thing was about $600 (and it conked out 3 days later so changing the thermostat didn't fix the problem, and so much for thier "diagnosis") so I DO think that the people I dealt with were thieves. I find it interesting that you would jump to such an erroneous conclusion as to me being difficult being the problem. That was REAL helpful. What I had hoped for was somewhere to start educating myself about what to look for in a good central air conditioner and what factors make one better than another, and if there ARE any REAL hazards about one kind of system over another (although I find that unlikely in refridgeration but I don't know which is why I'm asking). Otherwise the NEXT few people I deal with may try to convince me that System X will explode, and that is why Sytem Y which THEY install is better. Thanks...See MoreReplacing Central Air
Comments (2)Many details not listed in this information. All low end systems so buyer beware. I would not have any of them. Are you really in a coastal location? But if I had to choose it would be the Bryant and upgrade to the best matching FV L model var speed air handler. Since this is HP, I assume a small heat strip, probably a 7 KW for emergency heat only. With the Bryant I would also strongly recommend the Bryant Edge Thermidistat which would be well worth it considering your location. I personally would look at AmStd if you are really in harsh coastal environment. IMO...See MoreShould I replace my boiler system for central air?
Comments (3)Installing ducts from scratch sounds expensive, although you are remodeling anyway so that might cut the cost. Would the ducts steal headroom from your basement? I know lots of people who wish they did not have ducts in the basement. With the mini split ductless a/c they have now, you can avoid the expense and space stealing of duct work. Just a thought. What kind of fuel do you use for the boiler? The ductless units also come as a heat pump which can be cheaper than oil or propane but maybe not natural gas. The mini splits must be installed by a pro, so your best bet might be to contact some installers and get some offers and post model numbers. Comments (1)You don't have to replace the furnace but if it has a conventional blower motor (PSC), then you are really limited to a 13 SEER outside AC condenser with best matching evap coil. IMO...See Moreweedmeister
