I met the banana lady....
Comments (7)OMG I spend a few days driving up and down the state and come home to find your sweet and kind words. It's like being eulogized while living! Thanks all. You have been great garden friends and I loved meeting up with y'all. However I hardly qualify as a banana lady since I forgot to give bamboo rabbit the sample bananas I had in the cooler. Doh!...See MoreWhen to throw out the bananas and generally food waste
Comments (12)For me I don't call being frugal " cheap", penny-pinching, miserly, stingy--------------. As a matter of fact, I donâÂÂt even call it frugal. I call it value conscious. Greenish bananas is $0.79 a lb, but yellow bananas with very few black spots are marked down at $0.39 a lb, and as you know, yellow bananas with a few spots are at the best ripeness for eating. I was going to make pork chops, after having read ChaseâÂÂs pork chop thread. But pork chops are $4.99 a lb and pork shoulder is $0.99 a lb. Sous vide pork shoulder is more flavorful and more tender than pork chops. I was going to make prime ribs, after having read Ann_tâÂÂs dinner, then this week London Boil (boneless) is $0.99 a lb. I think Prime rib is $17.00 a lb? Sous vide London Boil is just as tender and may be beefier. I enjoy giving leftovers the Cinderella transformation, and free-range organic âÂÂweedsâ on the front lawn the gourmet promotion. Over the years, several thousand gallons later, there has never been one oz of kitchen scrap not composed. That includes meat, bones and fat, something normally people cannot compost. My simple tools for composting everything: A garden shredder to pulverize large bones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUn3SCoCFFc A simple home-made convertable small rototiller to bury kitchen scraps 36â deep. The video shows the tool is digging into earth which was still frozen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i9LSzb-U0g dcarch...See MoreAnts taking over my hours-old cedar raised bed
Comments (16)When I checked yesterday the corners of the bed where black with ants, all in the crevasses where the cedar boards meet. The soil was crawling and I'm not exaggerating, its like the bed IS an ant hill. This morning my husband says he's figured-out what they're going bananas over: He whipped the corners with mineral oil to prevent the wood from splitting. I had tried to see whether they liked fatty or sugary treats and they definitely loved the sugar and ignored the peanut butter. But there's surely something in that oil that they like. A lot....See MoreBeginning of My Bedroom Transformation
Comments (78)Arlene, I agree with you about the dark frames and so I lightened them, but then decided that I had painting overkill in this room and removed my husband's boat painting and the 1944 print of quail and grouse. Much better, in my opinion. I'll take additional photos after the area rug comes in. I won't make a decision about doing an accent wall until I see how the area rug affects the whole scheme. It seems to be gray and gold, although rug pictures are not great in color renditions, but it should be here soon. I'm taking your suggestions not to have an accent wall very seriously because your reasons make sense. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your interest in my little projects, which make them so much more exciting for me to implement, not to mention the inspiration you give me, even though I may, after due consideration, not follow all your suggestions....See Morejofus, ( Englewood, Fl zone 10a )
