Suggestions for decorating my master bedroom
Comments (21)I tried the bed with two side tables at an angle, but it didn't really work. Something about the distance between the large window and wall, and the width of the bed just didn't work. I could never get the angle to where it felt comfortable to look at. It also left a huge gap in the triangular area between the headboard and walls. It caused the trunk to be just a few feet from the entrance and the pathway from the entrance into the bathroom seemed cramped and awkward. So, it will have to be near where it is now. But I'm intrigued with the suggestion that I could move the bed over to where it was partially under the window. I have been diligently trying to keep it perfectly centered between the small window and the wall, even though that means I don't get a table. Because I thought that was what one should do. I would love to have a bedside table on my side. What you don't see is a foot stool providing storage for my chapstick, water, reading material, and extra pair of socks in case my feet get cold. And shutters??!! For the love of cabbage, people, I absolutely adore shutters, but didn't think they would work in that room. Shutters!! I also found a rug in Pottery barn that combines a version of the warm reds and yellows with the cooler blues and greens. I think this color mix will work, but it needs to be the right shades. http://www.potterybarn.com/products/brant-rug/?pkey=cpersian-style-rug-shop Also, if you will turn with me to p.152 of your January 2011 Pottery Barn catalog that offers Comfortable Style and a whites sale, you will see a photo of pillows at the bottom left of the page. I'm liking these colors and thinking of them with lots of neutrals. I'm warming up to the idea of the cottage look with lots of whites/neutrals, but still not sure about white slipcovers and all the white. It seems like it could look like a bunch of ghosts live here and left their outfits laying around the house. Maybe I need to look at more pictures. Also, on the all white with one color thing...is it one color for the whole house or does each room get a different color? And how would you avoid people from referring to different rooms as the "Red" room or the "Yellow" room or the "Blue" room? Two other questions... Given all the doors, which I am beginning to accept must be painted or replaced (Painting furniture made from hardwoods makes me sad, but I now see that I can't leave them as they are) would some type of wainscoting be too much action for this room? This is my grandmother's iron bed that is in an upstairs guest room. Would it be a candidate for our room, or do I need wood? Or possibly something upholstered? The iron bed does accept a standard mattress, you just have to beat and shoehorn it in there. The footboard is the same, but, of course shorter. It's brass-colored with the paint flaking off and will need to be repainted. Upholstered like this: http://www.potterybarn.com/shop/furniture-upholstery/bedroom-ideas/?cm_type=lnav The third room idea which is also found on p.18-19 in the January PB catalog....See MoreFinally, my Master Bedroom UPDATE !!!
Comments (38)Exactly, although I really appreciate your critique of my bedroom space. DH would not allow me to switch chest of drawers. That's his "side" of the room, bed, bench, lol. Y'all don't know what it took to talk him into curtains! Although, he has been pretty good throughout this decorating process. I did previously try to put the basket under the side table, but it is too tall with the pillows and would be a pain to get under to retrieve them. As for the air return, I cannot block it with anything that large and solid. You should have seen the dust on the solid painted screen. The heating and air guys were not thrilled with that, either. One of these days, I'll see the perfect console table to put there, but in the meantime, that's what I feel comfortable with and it's staying. I can't believe y'all have not seen these decorative screens as just that...decorative! Must be a southern thing. Anyhow, all I wanted to do is show you my newly revamped space because it is such a big improvement over what it was. Thank you for the kind words, tryingtodecorate. The color is Decatur Buff in the bedroom, and my fireplace wall is as well. I have considered painting that entire wall like the trim color, a paneled look like my previous home (seen below) and may do so when we replace the fireplace box (another story.) yayagal - We may sell, so come on!...See MoreBedroom transformation done, need accessories
Comments (31)Nice room, and great sewing skills! I have to wonder, however, at the money and time spent on decorating a room to appease a buyer when painting the room a more neutral paint color would be less expensive, most likely less time than already spent on sewing, procuring fabric, getting feedback and would solve the problem of worrying about whether the bright lime green walls would turn off a buyer. I've sold many houses, and I LOVE color. I love the green room. But many people just aren't good at projecting and all they see is a green room. Depending on the market, I've left red walls in a living room and colorful wallpaper (that's what sold the house) and the last house I painted every room back to a neutral color, and in that instance, THAT is what sold the house. My point is, depending on the market, your location, if there are many other homes competing against you, and who your target buyer is (young, Pottery Barn type would prefer neutrals most likely, older retired couple might be more likely to go with the color--of course, there are exceptions) I'd make the decision based on those factors. People tend to get caught up on staging both in buying and selling a home; the first thing I ever thought of was not how pretty the bedding was in a house, but what that room would look like WITHOUT the nice bedding, furniture and decor. Different buyers, different markets, different homes call for different decisions. Your room is beautiful, and I wish you the best of luck in selling your home....See MoreNeed some help with my bedroom layout/design!
Comments (3)First, you'll need to have a functioning closet/wardrobe so your clothes are not exposed. I would take a look at IKEA wardrobes and put them on the wall your desk is currently on. Something like these (the style of the units, not the layout of the room): By having drawers under the closet parts, you can then get rid of the dresser. Center your bed on the wall that currently has the dresser, then put your desk on one side and a nightstand on the other....See Morealways1stepbehind
