Went for a 3 week vacation... trees are dead?

I planted 7 of them last summer. They are probably 15-20 ft tall. They thrived ever since. We went on vacation at the end of June. I gave them a good deep watering the day before we left. When we came back, all were in distress but 1. I watered them good and I think 5 will survive. But two had all the leaves bone dry. I've been watering them every other day now, and one has one live leaf on one of the branches, but the other one has nothing.

The one with a singular leaf kind of gives me hope but I also had tall bush (english laurel) that looked half alive too when I came but after watering... it's pretty much dead now, there maybe a few green leaf left at the bottom.

Do you think they died, in just 3 weeks? Or should I keep watering them hoping they'd spring back? If so, how often to water trees in distress?... Before this I pretty much wasn't watering them at all, they seemed to be doing just fine with whatever rains we had until June, I maybe sprinkled them once.

Really bummed about them, they were big beautiful trees.
