Thanks for all the input everyone. roseabby - the white cordless cellular shades on those windows are new, so it won't be in the budget to replace them. I have small kids and I really wanted something cordless on those windows, particularly the large one, because they like to climb up on the bench and look out the window frequently. Perhaps I should have asked for advice when the windows were totally bare ;) palimpsest - I was thinking it might work to do 2 different treatments, but I'm not sure if it would look odd if I did nothing on the small window. The previous owners added this kitchen on to the back of the house in 1985 and they were trying to have the small window match the size of the other 2 windows on the side of the house - that is before they drywalled over them on the inside!!! They left the windows there and you can clearly see them from the outside, it's quite a sight. The big window is SUCH a headscratcher to me. They used to have sliders to the backyard, and that opening is now they archway between the LR and kitchen. Why they didn't just put french doors on the wall of the new kitchen is beyond me. There is another back door to the house they could have continued to use. I would really like to replace the window and door there with french doors, but it's going to be a while. We have too many other more important projects right now! gmnolen - thank you! The walls are painted Benjamin Moore Prescott Green. it's one of the Historic colors. The trim is painted BM Acadia White. newdawn1985 - it is a roman shade, but it is a stationary one. A seller on Etsy makes them, but I am pretty sure I can make one myself. twotogo - I have seen that done several times as well and considered doing it to my basement windows in the family room, where we tend to keep the blackout shades down anyway because we watch TV down there. olychick - thanks for that picture. That's a really ingenious way of making those windows look bigger!

Painter is coming Tuesday morning so curtains had to come down anyways. I totally agree that the curtains were way too dark – and your Eye was drawn to them. Never liked them from the day I put them up, but somehow they have managed to remain hanging there for two years. :(. Definitely will go more of a neutral color on the next ones if I do decide to get side panels. This is where I go back-and-forth and can't decide. I think I personally like the look of the window exposed – with maybe just blinds but don't know if it gives the room a "homey" look. As mentioned earlier the window is a very large 10 foot window – and you definitely feel a draft during the winter so i need to put something up. Uggghh- Interior decorating is certainly not one of my strengths and causes me stress!

I was not involved in your original post, so I will comment on what I see now. Nice job on the burlap window treatment and the bedskirt. If you want to keep the red bed cover, the mirror above the bed does not work. Find a canvas which hung properly, will act as a headboard. Remove the little red diamond and hide the white sheets and replace pillow covers with a melange of colors…this is from etsy.com

Hi JJ! Actually, you seem like you have a pretty good handle on your window treatment ideas. I like them! Just a couple of pointers and suggestions: Depending on where your fireplace wall and kitchen windows are in relationship to each other, you may want them all to match as either the natural wood or roman shades. If they’ve got plenty of visual separation, you’re fine to do the two different styles. Make sure to spend some time looking at how the kitchen wood blind coordinates with your cabinet wood. More contrast (a darker wood on the blind) would probably be better since you likely won’t match the cabinets exactly. You can cheat the kitchen and fireplace treatments a little higher to give an illusion of more height. The shades need to be a little wider than the outside of the trim and you can’t raise them above the top of the window glass itself. Then you’ll create the illusion properly. Hang the living and dining room rods near the ceiling and level with each other. The curtains should go all the way to the floor. Again, creating an illusion of more height. Overall though, trust your instincts! I think your ideas will work well with your decor. Hope that helps! Doug Walker
