I wish I had pics!! The kitchen cabinet-carts were in a rental house built by a retired carpenter; apparently his own idea. The counters were standard height, each unit immediately beneath the counter had a shallow drawer. Below that was the cart, an open wood frame with one end that looked like a cabinet-style door with a toe-kick but off the floor about ¼". When the cart was pushed under the counter, all you noticed was the "door" which matched the other cabinet doors. I remember there were wooden plinths which actually looked like the standard vertical cabinet dividers; the plinths acted as a stop so you couldn't push the cart through and smash the wall at the back. Most of the carts had adjustable "shelves" (shallow baskets actually) and two had a countertop for the top shelf -- I really loved those when I baked. I liked another of his ideas for some of the wall cabinets. The door of the cabinet was actually a shallow box with shelves (facing the usual shelves) that were just wide enough to hold cups or canned goods. I've haunted websites and carpentry info, and haven't found anything really close, although there are lots of cart plans available. So now I'm looking for a carpenter! Depending on which sort of crafts your DW is into, also consider adapting stackable shoe drawers -boot size-, maybe hidden behind bi-folds. I use these for storing sweatshirts in the BR as well as hold yarns in the craftroom. Sweater size hold flatwork. Link is to the ones I use -- I've got them stacked 9 tall with no problems. if you get this house, you really need to live in it a year before you start major remodels. it took us 2 years in our 4square to come up with an intelligent kitchen design. we did re-arrange things several times. check in the basement and see if there are any signs from previous remodels-- holes from gas/water lines. Our final kitchen plan after 2 years was identical to the orginal lay-out-- all the holes for gas, electric, plumbing and heating were right where we wnet to put everything. we bought our cabients, fixtures, appliances after we decided where evrything was going to go and what we liked. medium oak, beige tile, atainless appliances, off-white flooring (major error), almond countertops. each time an item wen on sale we bought it and stored all in the basement. we waited until we installed to order the counters. we moved everything out of the kitchen. hooked up the microwave in the dining room. stripped it all to the four walls, and scrubbed it all down on saturday. Sunday we painted, walls, wood work & ceiling. Monday I laid the sheet vinyl floor. Tuesday I put in all the base cabients. replaced to stove, fridge and rehooked up the sink. plywood went down as temp counters. Wed i installed the ceiling fan--i was desperate, the recessed light over the sink and the wiring for new electric above the backsplash. Thursday I hung the upper cabients and the stove hood. Friday they came to measure for counters and i put away all the dishes and stuff. Two week later the counters got installed-- done by home depot. i finished the tiles work for the backsplash, and installed the new sink and faucet. we could have eaten out for the 1st 3 days if necessary. I'm not really handy when it comes to house repairs. but i got top of the line cabients for 40% off, got the flooring for 60% off-- it was a discontinued pattern. Tiles for backsplash were also very cheap ($ .25 each 4x4) all from open boxes-- had to pick thru one by one), saved about $150 on the stove and $200 on fridge, bought the ceiling fan at the end of the summer sales saved 25%. The sink was a display model (30% off) and faucet we got 10% off because we opened an account at lowes. The only labor that we paid for was for the countertop installation that I didn't want to try doing alone. my wife helped to take stuff out of the kitchen and paint. I watched out twin 4 year olds and did the rest by myself since i was working 3-11 shifts at the time. After 15 years it's time for more work-- tile floor, solid surface counters, a dishwasher, new faucet and disposal. then a gas range and electric oven and a new fridge. ill do the floor, others can do the rest. hope you get the house. but live with the kitchen first until you know what you want. do like the red/white deco scheme you have in mind. you might consider 'quilted' steel backsplashes and a stainless hood. diggerb

Is that an even longer area for seating in front of the cooktop (still with only 12" of overhang)? Or, will there be cabinets there but they're just not marked? Note that even if he doesn't plan for seating in front of the cooktop, if he has an overhang there, seating will happen! Even if there is no overhang, I think there will still be an issue w/people hanging out in front of the cooktop. I would feel more comfortable if he took the wall down b/w the LR & kitchen and added some depth in front of the cooktop (maybe 24" cabinets) to force a relatively safe distance b/w back burners & hanger-outers. I'm only persisting with this b/c I've seen how my friends & family are...and if I had that setup and I was cooking and they saw that area to lean on or put food/drinks on in front of the cooktop...they would do it, at least until they were splattered w/hot grease or got a face full of steam. I guess it comes down to what does he perceive as more important...the view of the guests & LR for the limited time he probably spends in front of the cooktop or his back to his friends & LR for the much longer period of time he'll probably be prepping and doing other tasks & the safety issue. It's his kitchen and as long as he knows going in the risks of that location and mitigates them, then he's at least made an informed decision. [I'm done talking about it...] BTW...just b/c there's another doorway to the DR does not mean that doorway will get used more just b/c he wants it to. People take the shortest distance, even if it means having to push their way through (just watch people in a crowd or on a busy street or park). The other moves are fine. With the refrigerator in the new location it is closer to the MW and DR, further from the island, but not that much further. I think it's lined up close enough to the edge of the island that the island is not a barrier island. Both MW & Ref are still on the periphery, so guests using them won't be an issue for most of the kitchen work. The DW is still going to open up into the legs of anyone working at the cooktop, but after backing into it a few times, people will learn (especially if they back into a corner & get a bruise or two!) BTW...with the placement of the window in the original layout, moving the sink & DW down would have put the sink under the window. Is he planning on moving the window or was the first layout a mistake? If the sink & DW moved, the trash pullout could move to next to the refrigerator. It would still be convenient to the sink and also the MW...it's not convenient to the cooktop, but then it isn't in its current position either.

Hi Tom, I can tell which ones I started by seeds and as soon as they bloom, I do tag them. Others I get from other people and those I have to wait until they do bloom but with all of the ones that I have I still have lots of flowers to enjoy. I have bought mystery ones from a few people online and those I had to wait also, and then tag them. We had the pool a long time and finally it got to the point that I could spend twice as much and have it repaved and replace the tile or we could fill it. I called around and each city had different rules but at least this city it was very easy to have it filled. A neighbor down the street gave me a good deal and the rest is history. Now I have much more room to enjoy my plants. Barb
