just one bloom in living room what now?
Comments (3)I think this is normal for brugsmansia. If you give them plenty of light and fertilizer they will bloom. Indoors in winter, even in a sunny window, they will only bloom sporadically. Have you checked if the plant is rootbound ? I found that my one year old Charles Grimaldi (from a cutting) needed to be planted in a 10 gallon container (it had long outgrown its 5 gallon container after one season). You have a few options: - transplant your brug to a larger pot with fresh potting soil. - turn the pot daily so the plant does not "lean" into to sun - water frequently (probably daily to avoid drying out unless given a bit pot) and use fertilizer regularily You can also: - take a cutting of the tip of one of the branches above the "Y". - place the cutting in a vase of clean water at room temperature - the cutting should start to root in 2-3 weeks, and will be ready to transplant in 30 days - the cutting, because it is taken above the "Y" will flower much sooner (typically already at 1 foot or lower) and you will get more a bush type plant instead of a tree (or standard) type plant. - This should give you lower growing plants which flower sooner. You can transfer both (the original plant, and the cutting) outdoors in late May and grow them in a place which get sun, although you need to give them some protection from afternoon sun, unless you plant in large planters (too small planters dry out too quickly and fertilizer is not absorbed properly by the plant). Again, avoid keeping the plants rootbound (this means transferring to continously larger pots/planters which can be difficult, but which gives best result). You don't even have to overwinter the mother plants. Just take several cuttings (cut the top of the stems into several pieces) and root these in winter in water. By spring you will have several large new plants to go outdoors. Here are some pictures of my cuttings indoors: This is the color of my 'Charles Grimaldi' (very common) The flowers start yellow turning to orange Here is my 'standard' leaning heavily to the light. You can turn the plant daily or every few days to avoid this. Or tie the stem to a sturdy stick. Also, this pot is 5 gallon and I had to repot to a 10 gallon. I will probably repot in summer to a 20 gallon or so, I suspect. This is the cutting after it has rooted. It can now be planted in a gallon pot. Because the cutting was taken above the "Y" it will create a bush type and flower at a low height This is a picture of the vase with the cuttings. The vase is cleaned every 3-4 days and water changed. Water is kept warm, not cold and not hot. Also until roots are formed as shown, you do not need to fertilize. Here you can see two cuttings of a (thick) stem placed in the vase. These cuttings were just taken. In about two weeks small white "knobs" will appear on the stem and soon after roots will start to grow. Just remember to change water frequently and do not keep it hot or cold (just warm). Do not fertilize initially. This is how a "bush" type brugsmansia looks like. The plant is less than 1 foot tall, and flower buds (very small, you can not see those in the photo) are starting to develop. Outdoors, it will grow taller, but stay bushy, and will flower regularily....See MoreLiving Room, family room, sitting room, sun room eye candy!

As you can see, the indoor unit is mounted near the ceiling. mini split in home mini split home stock Inside the unit is a fan and a set of self-adjusting louvers. The louvers can be configured by the remote control to sweep back and forth and up and down, or point the cool air in a specific direction or directions. The louver directions are easily set with the remote control. We love our mini-splits because they are quieter than the industrial-strength fans we used to have, and they provide near instantaneous cooling. When the unit is off, the louvers close, making the unit look even sleeker. In this photo, the louvers are closed almost all the way: indoor unit closed The indoor unit is connected to the outdoor unit by two insulated refrigerant pipes and a power line. We only have to drill a 3″ hole through the wall to run the pipes and wire. And, of course, the hole is behind the indoor unit and made weather tight from the outside....See MoreFinally - drywall! Comments (17)Have you already decided on a color? I was going to suggest SW Burlap before I got to point where you mentioned it as a color that you were considering. It's brown with a touch of green/olive. My home has an open floor plan and I just recently painted my kit. & liv. room walls SW Ecru.I painted the kitchen ceiling SW Muslin, and the liv. room ceiling SW Netsuke. These colors are on the same strip as the Harmonic Tan and Burlap you mentioned. I have a sunroom/dining room adjacent to my living room and I had planned to paint it SW Burlap, (wonbyherwits garden room was my inspiration-linked below), but at the last minute I changed my mind to BM Pike's Peak Gray because I decided I wanted to add a pop of blue/gray to my color scheme. Comments (36)Beautiful job! I don't know if you have time to go back to the fabric store. If so, get the same fabric and smush it up. See how it will hang. You might only see small parts of the fabric or things you're not especially interested in seeing. Though I really love ikat (I might be in the very minority here), I think of them as more of a trendy fabric even though it's been around for thousands of years. The floral is pretty and it reminds me of the fabric in your living room on the ottomans you like. Though, it does have a modern look to it. But to me (hoping you don't super love it) it doesn't do your room justice. The monkey one is really more traditional to me and I like it a little better. And, from your posts, you run more contemporary. How about a paisley? I have a fabric that I picked out (I won't be offended if you hate it) that I finally ordered. I think it would be pretty in your room, too. I like that it's a linen, so you get more texture. And, it picks up the colors you have in your room. I guess it's an updated jacobean fabric. I thought it was just a floral. I learned it from the gurus here. :) Here are a couple more- just quickly looked on their site. I can't load up the rest. Sorry. They have a paisley that I thought would be pretty. http://www.fschumacher.com/search/ProductDetail.aspx?sku=174800 As a rule (supposedly), you're supposed to have the bottom third the second fabric. At least, that is how I was told. I prefer curtains to romans or shades. Normally, i'd put a roman or a grass shade underneath, but you'd lose the top windows due to the shade. So, I vote no on those. I wouldn't cover up the top windows at all. So, just a vote for curtains. And, I vote for figuring out which fabric you love the most and going off of the colors in there. :) You won't be happy if it's not right! Good luck!
