Thursday's flowers

The weather has been wonderful the last couple of days. We do, however, need a good rain.

Dawn of Aquarius has been lovely this year.

Apache War Dance's scapes are shorter this year than they usually are.

Coral Majority is doing great this year.

I can't wait to see Crackling Fire in clump strength. It is such a unique flower being a reverse bicolor. This one was planted just this spring.

Here's another face of Explosion in the Paint Factory. The flowers are different every day.

There is nothing fancy about Flameburst, but it has such rich red with a velvet black overlay and is late blooming, so it will stay around for a while. It's hard to get a good picture of it, but today's photo looks close in color.

Greywoods Roseberry Sorbet was new this spring. It looks like it will be a good grower.

We are down to the last flowers on One for the Road, so they are on the small side.

Red Hot Miracle is one of the few doubles we grow.

This is Sunshine on My Shoulders. It need to be moved from its too shady location. It is still well-budded.

This is an early fulva hybrid called Rosalind.

This is one of our favorites of all the three year old seedlings. It is Lady Stephanie Victoria Redding X Rosy Spiketail. It appears to be a late bloomer. The blue ribbons means it is selected to go to what we call an observation bed. The pink ribbon on it means it is a special select that bears a close watch.

This is one Bob likes (me-not so much). It is Up Against the Sun X Horns.

Ooooo, Dawn of Aquarius is lovely! Nice to see Coral Majority doing well for you, it’s new here. I like Red Hot Miracle , that’s a lovely double, I have a few doubles and really like mine. Love your seedlings, hope the Stephanie seedling makes the big cut.

Mantis_oh, Tiger by the Tail has been a good performer for us. We planted it in 2012, the year of the horrible drought. It has increased very well and has many scapes this year. It seems to have gotten its vigor from its parent Rock Solid. Its other parent, Adorable Tiger, has been puny for us. Tiger by the Tail does not have a really high bud count (registered at 14), but many others ( even Northern bred daylilies) do not live up to the bud counts listed in the AHS database. We have poor sandy soil and we have decided that in the past we have not watered enough.

Ohhhhhh. Now the light dawns. I couldn't figgure out what the tub reference was for. Sharon- I like the older types of zinnias instead of the profusion. CUT AND COME AGAIN, CACTUS FLOWERED, STATE FAIR, PETER PAN, the small button ones I can't remember the name of, I have grown them all from seed. Zinnias look really great with daylilies, I had zinnias in with my daylilies last year but those zinnias got too big. Profusion zinnias would probably be good with daylilies as they might not get as big. Those STATE FAIR zinnias out front are really tall already.

Geometric Wizard is one I liked last year when you posted it. And Kiss of Paradise is very pretty. Incendiary is a different lily as Sherry said. Mine is much more darker and purple than yours and I think Celeste usually posts an even darker one, doesn't she? I am trying to remember if Bill posted several pictures of it on his site when he was selling, to show the different types of pattern it can show. It has not for me. But his Strikingly Dramatic has never actually shown that pattern he shows, either, although someone on the forum does post it and it does display that distinct pattern. Get Jiggy (not his, of course) has never given me much of the jiggy pattern but Debra seems to get it on hers. Sometimes I get a lily like this and when it blooms, I think that it looks just like some other lily in my garden with nothing to distinguish it as "special". Kate

Thanks, everyone! Thanks, Brad! Yeah, it's sad. I need to google that, check where they are. I am in Iowa btw. Thanks, Mantis! Haha Deliverer is splotchy, I just picked a good flower. Several of the registered lates bloom early for me. Thanks, Kate! Very disappointing indeed. Thanks Debra! Insects was my first thought too, I have some spray I use on my rose, sprayed with that but don't think it helped. I'll write those two down, thanks. Thanks Nancy! I think the weather is pretty normal, don't know what happened, have never experienced anything like that yet.

What kind of height does the Rosy Spiketail seedling have? I hadn't noticed Apache's branches being shorter. Are yours substantially shorter?

Beautiful picks! Love the color of Coral Majority! One for the Road is very pretty. Explosion is quite unique! Love both seedlings esp the Lady Stephanie one.

Great color and form for Dawn of Aquarius. So pretty. My Coral Majority did wonderfully well too. That is a very nice seedling you are watching. I know what you mean about how hard it is to get a good picture of a red with black velvet on it. I've got a couple and the pictures never do them justice. Also purple with some black on it. is hard to get.

Mantis, I would estimate that Apache War Dance is about six to eight inches shorter than it has been. It's planted right next to Coral Majority and they are usually about the same height, but not this year.

The Lady Step seedling is probably about 32 inches tall. We don't try to take stats in the crowded seedling bed. Sometimes we see a great improvement when we move them to the select bed and give them more room. It is one we have been watching since its first bloom.

I didn't know Dawn of Aquarius was so blue looking. It's really pretty! I'm ordering at least one from Curt this fall. Maybe I'll request that one as the bonus. I think both seedlings are very nice. I prefer the Rosy Spiketail baby, but a lot of people do like bright colored selfs like the Horns kid. I think there's a market for both.

I love Dawn of Aquarius, a beautiful shade. Coral Majority had a great year here too.

There are so many pretty ones here. Dawn of Aquarius has such a nice color. Coral Majority looks great in that clump as does Flameburst. And of course I love Sunshine on my Shoulders!
