1925 bungalow exterior painted; tying it all together?
Comments (8)Thanks everybody! It makes me feel much better to know others like the color, too. Awm, I love the triple windows as well. That dormer has a built-in window seat with bench storage in the little room; there is so much potential there! I'll try to get a picture of the front steps and flowers, but my camera isn't cooperating right now. boysrus2, thanks for the compliment. It really did make a big difference to curb appeal. jakeabedy, thanks for the link; I love that bungalow. I so wanted to paint my sashes a deep red, and even tested it on several windows. The problem was that the porch is so dark that the windows disappeared when I tried it. It would have worked on the upper triple windows, but then the front door sidelights and downstairs windows would just dissolve into the black glass. I drove around the historic district and noted several painted sashes, but no one with a deep porch that pulled it off. We debated for a long time, but couldn't find any accent color that didn't just disappear in the darkness....See MoreFinished period kitchen - 1925 Craftsman Bungalow
Comments (48)I'm late to the thread - got here on from a search for more info on the Bosch Electric slidein. What impressed me most - was how appropriate the Bosch smoothtop looked in that period kitchen. It looks much bettter than any gas range with the ugly grates would look - and far better than those gawdy inudstrial wanna-be lookalikes that IMO very inappropriately dominate and destroy the look of a proper reproduction early era residential kitchen. Despite the modern electronics on the oven - the Bosch has that classic UNDERSTATED elegance which is the true character of an early 1900's home. The Bosch is obviously not a true reproduction antique stove - but the flat top FAR more closely reproduces the iron flat top that was truly autentic to stoves in the same era as your home. We're currently undergoing a total interior reconstruction on our 1905 Edwardian Home in Toronto, and also are taking pains to be true to the original character like you were. LOVE the backsplash - and the black trim accents - was well worth the effort. Currently - the Bosch Integra Electric HEI7282 is on sale at Sears in Canada. We're thinking of purchasing one today - and immmediately using it in the temporary living zone we have carved out in our otherwise total construction zone house. Can't seem to bring ourselves to clean up and use the 20 year old filthy, came with the house, electric coil range which has been stored in the garage all winter - LOL. Our new kitchen won't be ready for a few months....See MoreExterior Paint Scheme for 1920's Craftsman/Bungalow
Comments (3)Its a very cute house. Congratulations on your new home. I dont blame you though, I would be wanting to paint too. That blue doesnt go with one darn thing. i do really like your brick, and it looks like it belongs on your house, please dont paint it. I would look really close at the brick, and the color of the mortar and pick a color of either the mortar or a color in the brick itself ad repaint that blue really fast. I would paint the window trim white, which is probably the way it was when the house was built. I cant tell exactly what color that foundation is, except that it is way too light. It makes the house look like its sitting on a big box on a green yard. Try and pick a color really close to the brick, or a darker gray or brown (I cant tell the color of your roof for sure) so that it looks grounded....See MoreBungalow Exterior Help Please
Comments (7)Gray doesn't go with the stone or the roof. Depending on your budget, you could cover the existing (or new larger) porch with a roof and two posts. Then you would have a more functional entry (no one wants to be out in the rain trying to get in the front door as quickly as possible) and the appearance of the stone would be minimized. Painting the door trim white is still a good idea, and changing the color of the front door and shutters would help, too. The trim on the roof peak over the front door probably should be white too. I like the earlier suggestion of a green front door. You will need to view paint samples next to the stone in order to see what shade of green works. I think you would have difficulty getting a blue or red to work, but colors look different in person than they do on a computer. The reason people always recommend against painting brick or stone is because those materials need to be able to breathe. Painting them also creates an ongoing maintenance requirement that doesn't exist with plain brick or stone....See MoreSammy
