Do you like my dining room or should I change something?
Comments (22)You have some nice furniture and I really like the color of your walls. You are mostly there! :-) I agree with others that if the chair seats were covered in a print or textured colored fabric it would add more interest. Since your room is traditional I think 2 candlesticks of silver or brass would look good. Use candles that repeat an accent color in the room or the green from the other room. Between the candles you could use fresh flowers when entertaining or faux if you want something on the table at all times. Make this a relatively low arrangement and place in a nice cachepot. A live plant would be an option as well altho not sure how much light that area gets. The 3 hurricanes are too many and too modern for the room IMO. One alone in the center of the table could work with a colored candle and filler but it's still a more contemporary feel which of course is a personal choice. For anyone uncertain about what to put on a table I recommend the blog link posted below. Comments (7)@IdaClaire is right about how having space is relaxing - especially since you already have nice design elements for the eye to appreciate in that room. I am just finishing up a gut remodel and I so appreciate all the open space I know have. I came from a place where I had just crammed everything in - I look around my bedroom (for example) and just can't imagine how I existed with all that excess stuff. I live in a high rise and my neighbor who lives in a unit with the same layout came up. There was an empty small corner next to my bedroom door and she asked whether I was going to put some storage there and I just laughed. Her place is absolutely stuffed to the gizzards with crap and furniture. She is 81 and is storing clothing from 40 years ago - dishes she doesn't use etc. And for what? For her son to hire a trash expert to dispose of within the decade....See MoreWant to change the look of my chandelier
Comments (8)Keeping it black looks like the right option with your foyer table. I wonder if you could find something interesting in gold to hang in place of the crystals that would look more transitional....See MoreHad fire, should I change layout in my 2013 Gardenweb assist kitchen?
Comments (18)We had a whole house fire about 6 years ago and had to redo everything down to the studs. We were like you in that our kitchen wasn't brand new, but too new for us to have considered redoing without the fire. Doing an unexpected reno is super stressful (as you know), but one tradesperson told us, you have the chance to redo things to be exactly what you want, make sure you do. We tried to take that advice. I was pretty happy with my kitchen, but now I adore it. We ended up finding a designer who specialized in space planning and she gave us several options and was also happy to consider the ideas I got from the friends here. She was the one that came in and did the precise measurements to see what would actually fit and what wouldn't. I was going to suggest finding someone other than your contractor to do the design, but it sounds like he is part of a bigger operation and there is someone who will do good drawings/measurements for you? Our designer was very experienced and one thing she was able to do for us was predict our family's future needs. Our daughter's were 11 and 15 at the time and I was thinking of what our needs were before the fire, she nudged us to see that soon they would both have near adult needs and then be gone. She helped us design for that and, so far, we can see that she was bang on. Good luck making your decision. It sounds like either scenario you are considering could work, but I would wait for good plans/drawings before letting them go ahead and do anything....See MoreCarol jean Mudgett
