SW GREEK VILLA AND SW PURE WHITE?

I had whole house interior painted in SW Greek Villa.

Now for trim (doors, baseboards, casing) - does SW Pure White work?

FYI- I have black windows so that may come in to play...

I saw Lori Sawaya’s response to another poster on similar colors. She taught me that chroma in them must be more than 0.20 apart.

Greek Villa is chroma 0.71
Pure White is chroma 0.44

I think that means it does work BUT WAIT! What about the HUE??

Greek villa hue is 6.24 Y
Pure white hue is 9.05 Y

Oh my.... please help

I like EW better in general and in your pictures.

Yep they are in same Hue family and they are more than .20 apart. But what light do you have? I find Greek Villa can go too yellow for my personal taste. So if you want light look, use same color but Satin finish on trim and flat or matte on walls. It will look subtly different but blend beautifully. Good luck.

Extra White is prettier than Pure White, IMHO.

But either way, EW or PW, they both harmonize with Greek Villa in terms of hue relationship.

And, of course, Flo is right. What does it *look* like in context, in the space matters as much as the numbers.

The numbers (color notation) is a framework to help you manage color and define harmonious relationships - the numbers will never steer you wrong. BUT! Does is look pretty will always be the final deciding factor.

Thanks for sharing the pictures! They’re all beautiful. I’ve actually just made plans to do the opposite of the advice, so we’ll see what happens. With our west facing bedroom, the colors look either too dark and harsh on 2 of the walls, or too light and faded. So we’ll be using Greek Villa and Natural Choice on alternating walls. I’m only doing my 11 year old daughter’s room. She wants a boho style room, and we have a terracota colored comforter and wood accent pieces ready. We don’t want to have to repaint trim in just one room, so those will stay with Behr’s Ultra Pure White like the rest of the house. Maybe I’ll share some pics when it’s finished. Wish me luck!

Hi, I just choose pure white for my cabinets. All the advice i got on here was just to paint the walls pure white. but i will have pure white trim. not sure how that would look with your old trim though, if you say no one notices the diff then might work for you.

I have no idea how we can help . Test both in th house and IMO after the floors are installed . Make sure all the lighting is the same everywhere I like LED 4000K for sure when choosing whites. I actually think white walls are best in contemporay spaces so maybe be some hint as to the furniture for the space I am not sure from the description exactly what your style is so some pics would help. Post here in comments do not start another post . Use poster board with 2 coats painted on them to move around in the spaces to see which one you like better.

I have attached photos for clarity.

In the photos, SW PURE WHITE is on left, SW EXTRA WHITE is on the right.

In one photo PW is on top, EW is below it.

You can see both side by side on my chosen wood floor and my quartz along with charcoal blue island color for whole picture

The entire open space (kitchen, dining and living rooms) has already been painted in SW Greek Villa, so I cannot change that.

I need to decide which one for my cabinets in all 3 rooms that look best with the Greek Villa and black windows and they also be for all trim (doors, baseboards etc)

I already told cabinet maker PURE WHITE but I think I can change it before he gets too much farther in the process.

I would really appreciate your advice! I need to let him know before it’s too late.

Extra white however it might be too bright when you get actual lighting in. I just prefer bright, light tones. The other might look dingy to my eye.

@Jodi do you have finished pictures? Your design/color scheme is similar to mine. What quartz did you choose? I am having a hard time deciding between whites and my room faces north. This process is daunting and all the information is excellent, however it's making head spin.

I agree with you the PW definity looks dingy, but what is an alternative if I don't want dingy (PW) or the bright (EW)? Is there a color in between that can balance the two? Or is that not an option which means rethinking light colors in general for a project like this?

I’ve gone through about 20 samples of white the last months. Everyone thinks I’m nuts and I am starting to think that they are right. I know it’s not what you want to hear, but you really do need to get a number of samples and try them in your space, maybe not 20 though..

I might try just SW base paint. No tint added and see what you think.

SW's base paint is SW 7006 Extra White. In terms of brightness, it's not the brightest white you could choose. For example, Chantilly Lace is brighter, Snowfall White is brighter, Cotton Balls is brighter, etc.

Compare colors based on Value to get a sense of brightness.

I've been going through a similar chaos (don't husbands just love it!). But the realization that everything could change once the lighting is installed pretty much threw me over the edge. I decided to go with @Lori A. Sawaya's "The Best White" and am crossing all fingers and toes.

Seems we have way too many choices these days. I try to humor myself by imagining what our great great grandparents would say about our quest for the "perfect" white paint color! :-D

(Now fretting over which white for trim!)

@C DeV and @Jodi What did you end up selecting? I adore SWGreek Villa and have the same/similar countertops...LG Brushed Minuet. I would love to see the final photos if you are so inclined. I have a North Facing kitchen as well. Thank you!
