Tiny Entry With style
Comments (2)Although I have a coat closet I found no one used it - but slung their coats over the stair banister. So I applied beadboard with a top piece to the wall and put up hooks. Mine is on the wall next to the closet door, which is an ordinary interior door, not bifolds. It does mean all our coats can be seen, but at least they are neat on the hooks and not piled on the stairs. With the bifold door closet, you could convert it into a mini mudroom. I've seen various tutorials online. Here is an example pic: It does mean your stuff is not behind doors anymore, but if kept in order, it can organize the front hall. The electric panel has to remain accessible, but it may be possible to place a more attractive cabinet door on it - that is what I did to mine when the basement was finished. The carpenter did the work and the inspector approved all the work, so at least in my area, it was an OK thing to do....See MoreUsonia-style house with TRULY tiny kitchen needs HELP!
Comments (10)I'm back Houzzers--and thanks for more comments/suggestions. In no particular order, here are answers to questions: (1) 4 people live in this house, (2) we eat together every night possible and also host--at least twice a month--groups of 10-15 other folks (utilizing outdoors as much as possible--I've been known to reschedule an event if rain was probable), (3) budget is solid--willing to go "high end" on elements that are worth the expenditure, and (4) here is what the rest of the living area looks like: (see below) Please note: at some point in the history of ownership of this bungalow, it was decided to put the hot water heater and HVAC system behind those bi-fold doors in the first picture below and wall off the kitchen. This is a typical Usonia-style house with a low pitch roof and thus zero attic space to move either one of these items up there. We're looking into tankless water, etc. The next view is to the right of the wall of windows where sliding doors were added at some point. The last view is the view from the kitchen of the rest of the living area - the full length from the wall where the refrigerator is to the opposite blank wall in 3rd picture is 26ft. The distance from the sliding glass doors in the 2nd picture to the windows in first picture below is 19ft. That constitutes the living area. (All bedrooms are in separate pods off this main space.)...See MoreOdd Tiny Windows- How to Style
Comments (26)@BeverlyFLADeziner Thank you- I knew something bothered me about the room the way they staged it to sell but I could not figure out what it was. I appreciate all the comments and ideas! I had thought of possibly adding beams in here to the ceiling! I’m trying to figure out the best shape/style of chandelier for this room. The foyer/entry light, a more wide/beefy one where they have the dining room table (but hung higher so we can walk under it as we won’t have a table under it), and I will need to coordinate with a new dining table light fixture in the kitchen/dining area that is visible from this room. I think a dark finish would look best. Front door faces to the west I believe but window is somewhat shaded from a tree/shrub in the front yard. This room will be our music room/library/company visiting room. I have a couch I will center between the two square windows as part of the seating area. I have several tall bookcases I would like work into this room (one is shown in photos of our current living room)- they all match. I plan on removing the staged dining table and putting our piano on the wall where the dining area is located currently and using the area for our music stand and string instruments, sheet music/books....See MoreHow to style a tiny foyer (split entry home)
Comments (5)I don't think you need much -- the plant seems ok, or an umbrella stand if you come in and out this way. If you find something you like, then either wall is ok. If you need additional functionality here (not just for decor purposes), you could move the plant to the other side and put a little shelf for mail or whatever, with a small picture or mirror over it. Otherwise, I like the rug and I'd update the chandelier to something with maybe some black metal elements......See Moreremodeling1840
