Comments (8)A visual barrier is all you may need to contain cars to the parking area. If a car is really going to go over, a 18" wall may not stop it. What about continuing the split rail fence around the parking area to define it? This will eliminate the need for the second shorter wall. Dry stack stone walls will take the freeze thaw cycles better than mortared walls and can shift a bit without cracking and becoming unsightly. David Reed a stonemason in Asheville NC has written two books about building stone walls you might like to check out. Last winter I built two dry stacked stone walls, four feet high and thirty feet long in the mountains of North Carolina with native stone from the site. You can see them When Land Hands You Rocks amili...See MoreFaucet/Fixture -- quality but won't break the bank?
Comments (10)I'm a Honda girl!! --drive a Honda Odyssey and proud of it!). I have the Danze Opulence kitchen faucet in brushed nickel in our farmhouse-style kitchen. Would I have liked a Perrin & Rowe (was that the name?)? Absolutely! But at my price point, Danze seemed to fit the bill. Have had it for over a year, and still LOVE it! Especially the finish and weight of it--feels REALLY sturdy. And the brushed nickel finish is fabulous!! It's matte but has a great sheen to it...hard to describe, I guess. I liked it so much, I bought the Danze Fairmont faucet for our bathroom reno ($123) and the shower/tub combo for $147. Considering the Delta faucet I liked at Lowe's was $144, I think those prices aren't too bad!! Good luck--it's tough being on these forums and having a modest budget...you learn a lot, but I wouldn't really say that you save in the long run--your list of MUST HAVES just gets longer and longer... :) (terms/brands that were foreign to me before gardenweb...Rohl, Insta-Hot, Vent-A-Hood, Grohe, Miele, Danze, Rev-A-Shelf, Walker-Zanger, toe-kick drawers...and the list goes on and on!) Comments (18)jejvtr, FWIW: The arrangement I suggested for the surrounds is directly from DOLBY LABS specs. Now if they who invented Dolby Surround don't know where the speakers should go, then I suppose no one does. Crutchfield? Now there's a true professional outfit. Sort of like Best Buy/Circuit City for the internet. Gauranteee they know ALL there is to know (sarcasm if you don't recognize it) about AV systems. "You offer such great advice and in such a polished tone, it makes me want to hang on your every word, follow all your threads and responses - let me guess you are in your 20's and you really do "know it all" don't you? (sic)" I'm sorry I don't come across with a "polished tone" as you would like. But it REALLY bothers me when someone NOT in this profession gives such glaringly incorrect advice. I have a difficult time being politically correct when dealing with ignorance. My bad that. But I can't see sugar coating it. Out of ignorance you gave bad advice. And, to me, giving bad advice is stupidity. I equate that ging of bad advice with giving road directions when you really don't know the way. Not a smart thing to do. And FYI I actually do not claim to "know it all". And, unless I started in this industry before I was born, I am not some 20 year old (30 or 40 either for that matter)....See Morebest slipcovered sofa that won't break the bank?
Comments (10)wow, thanks so much for all the great info! Unfortunately I have to do most of my shopping online (or drive about 3 hours one way) to look at the brands I'm looking for. Although hubby and I may take a drive in the next few weeks, I'd like to have it narrowed down at least by then. Hubby is NOT a shopper and complains about his legs hurting after only walking around for about 30 mins (funny how he can play basketball for 3 hours and not complain - ha!) I had not seen PB's performance twill fabric, but if it gets out stains that easily I'm DEFINITELY all over it! Thanks for the tip! And nmladybug, that is horrible that you spent so much for a piece of junk sectional! I'm so sad for you! I was actually considering the Pearce sofa so thanks for the advice. Do you know who the manufacturere of your sectional is? Thanks again for all the suggestions and I'll keep ya posted :)...See MoreLaura Tater
