Comments (36)catkin - after the raw wood is primed, I'd put in a vote for SW Pro-Classic waterborne in a satin finish. Cashmere is a unique finish - it is not the toughest stuff around. Its final finish is luxe i.e. the Cashmere name. Most all of the SW products are DIY skillset friendly IMO. Duration, however, can be a challenge but anything that goes on at such a thick film, or mils, rate it's no surprise. You 'apply' Duration more so than 'paint' with it. If that makes any sense. SW vs. BenM -- it's all about matching the right product from each brand to the project and painter. Success and failures happen with each brand. Duration's gloss levels are shinier than general industry average. The matte is PLENTY shiny for me and just one or two more degrees of gloss and it would be too shiny IMO. The satin is equivalent to some semi-glosses if ya ask me. There are no industry standards for gloss levels. Every store should have samples so you can see and touch and evaluate -- be sure to ask to see them if they are not on display. It does make it difficult sometimes. Duration is a good example. Some people have very strong feelings about dead flat finishes. It does not meet their personal tolerances and in extreme cases it's been described to me as 'making my teeth hurt'. So, when I spec Duration Matte for one of those extreme tolerance cases, there's always a discussion about how it's not flat and shinier than you might think. Managing and spec'ing gloss levels is almost as much work as spec'ing color....See MoreSherwin Williams kilim beige or Benjamin Moore Manchester tan?
Comments (13)I would get samples. Sometimes people have reported Kilim to have band aid look. Kilim has a slight green undertone compared to my BM Shaker Beige walls (they have a red undertone). If you start comparing paint chips with other chips you'll be able to see undertones. I have another room painted Manchester Tan and it's a very nice color. A little lighter than Kilim and has a subtle green undertone, but I honestly had a hard time even seeing it until I tried to determine what it was. If you're unsure, and looking to stay away from fleshy colors, I'd pick Manchester for sure. It is slightly putty looking and a little cooler, but no flesh tones. I can take photos later if you'd like. Photos of Manchester Tan from Adventures in decorating blog look pretty accurate to real life on my monitor. Comments (12)I know I have only painted one coat so far over the primer but the coverage so far looks pretty good. I always do two coats of paint despite what the can or store might say. I read an old thread in which Lori talked about "holidays" in the first coat paint and found that description a good one. So my issue right now isn't coverage, but color. The Heritage Red appears dull and lifeless and multiple coats on the wall are not going help. To confirm this I took an old 2 x 2 piece of drywall and primed and then painted two coats of Heritage. Still not vibrant enough. This is a color that BM developed for exterior use, discontinued for a while and brought back in the last few years. The sample quart I purchased appeared so much more vibrant than the gallon formulation. Granted the sample sheen is eggshell and the Aura I purchased is flat. I am on the hunt locally for the new LED bulbs. I feel like Goldilocks. I want a vibrant but not screaming in your face Red. Thanks for all the replies so far. I really appreciate the help....See MoreHelp take my small master bath from drab & dreary to dreamy & cheery!
Comments (64)Thanks, all! I really love the color, which makes the bathroom feel much more uplifting. I am gratified by Gratifying Green. BlueberryBundtcake, I think that what you're talking about is the vent fan. It's kind of loud and probably old (house was built in 1985, and we are the 3rd owners), but it's functional. I was glad to have it while painting, to keep the paint fumes at bay. Also, you have a good eye, BB; there is, in fact, a small gap between the wall and counter edge. I know that the previous owners did quite a bit of DIY, which may explain that little imperfection. It looks as though it would be easily remediable. I have used a bidet on a couple of occasions. Although hubby has been good at ensuring that we never come close to running out of toilet paper, I know that virus-related panic has made toilet paper harder to come by this year. That, along with my conservationist inclinations, has me thinking that a bidet might be a good idea. There was, not too long ago, an article in Consumer Reports that compared different bidet attachments, but I am curious about the experience of my fellow Houzzers....See Moregustaviatex
