Ikea Kitchen Sale Fall 2019
Comments (27)I am super disappointed about the current Kitchen Non- Event. Hubby and I have wanted an IKEA kitchen for several years and finally could afford one. We purchased cabinets, countertops and related items about a month ago; we had actually factored the anticipated refund/ gift card of 10% or 15% into our budget and were waiting patiently for the Kitchen Event. The only thing eligible in the current sale is countertops so we got a small refund but much less than anticipated. And it REALLY bugs that Canadian customers are getting the regular 10% off the entire kitchen....See MoreBefore and After - Galley Kitchen 2020
Comments (65)Thank you - and I agree, not enough galley kitchens are shown on Houzz. My husband bakes scones every week - he spoils me. Between the peninsula top and the area to the left of the sink, we have plenty of room for baking and meal-making. We used to have large family gatherings and having enough space and countertop area were never a problem. We just couldn't have more than two people working in the kitchen at the same time. which is what I prefer, anyway. I wish I had had my 30" oven back then instead of the 27" one that came with the house. My sister liked our galley kitchen and how it functions so well, that she transformed her square kitchen into a galley. The coffee and tea cabinets that come down to the countertop are perfect for our uses. I don't miss the counter space that had been there and can still use the toaster and butter the toast on the tea side. On the coffee side, next to the cooktop, we keep condiments that are used frequently - salt, pepper, olive oil, etc. When cooking there is plenty of space for the utensils we need - and keep in a lower pull-out cabinet. I forgot to include a photo of the shelved, closet-like pantry which is to the left of the refrigerator. Without that, there wouldn't be enough storage. The ONLY thing I would do differently is have round legs on the end of the peninsula. We have banged our knees too many times on the square edges of the legs!...See MoreKitchen Update 2020
Comments (9)Hard to advise you on wall paint without seeing a photo. I stopped my paint in an inside corner because I have bullnose corners. If you painted the cabinets a light color, you could keep the dark gray countertop. But that's a big job and the paint can be prone to chipping. You said you wanted to replace the appliances so maybe you should think about starting there. Three years before I remodeled, I replaced my cheap electric stove with a better stove and it made cooking much more pleasurable. The quality of the food improved too with the better cooktop and oven. Since you have kids, maybe you'd enjoy having a new fridge with a better shelf and bin layout and more capacity, or the freezer on the bottom. Appliances in good condition can usually be sold too....See MoreNew to Kitchens? Read Me First! (2020 Interim, Try #2)
Comments (3)All my other threads have now mysteriously re-appeared (i.e., I suspect the Houzz bug has been fixed). Let's use the first one I created and let this thread slowly fade away.
