Comments (13)Toni, The only growers that retuned my email are = Four Winds Mckenzie Farms Laguna Hills Friends Ranch Still waiting for all others to respond.(not holding breath) I just bought a Miho from Acorn. A great upright Mandarin! But no kishu's. Four Wind, has started propagation. They said they could be ready in a year or two. Leona the I am still getting a lot of correspondence from all my inquiries and if any turn up to be available this century then I will post Imed.... It was soo worth it! Thanks to you all again! Comments (15)Could very well be, Evan. I know this person or nursery has been in the industry for decades, according to Clausen's, and sold off a lot of their budded stock since they were not planning on going under screen to continue to propagate their own citrus. You should check with them to see if they still have any Primosoles hanging around, and pick on up. I think it is really our answer to a satsuma, which for me, are not their best here in my growing conditions. Many of the smaller wholesale citrus growers have been summarily put out of business due to those new growing restrictions CA that were put into place last year. All propagation must be conducted under screen. Clausen's is one of those growers. They are the grower that started the Weikiwa out here in California. They acutally used to grow them commercially, then switched to propagating citrus on a wholesale basis, and allow us regular old folks to come in and buy at retail too. They are very, very nice people. They just don't have the investment funds to drop a million or two for a screen house, as well as no level land to do so. We have a lot of citrus history in our area, don't we? Patty S. This post was edited by hoosierquilt on Tue, Dec 2, 14 at 11:44...See MoreIs Kishu the best mandarin?
Comments (13)In my opinion, Kishu is one of the best. (Maybe in the top 3 or 4 for mandarins, but that's just going by personal preference) Effortless to peel, good taste, seedless when not pollinated by a different variety, or you might only find one seed in every other fruit. The fruit size is very small, but considering how easy and little effort it takes to peel, that's not really an issue. Kishu is also believed to be one of the original parents of Satsuma, and is probably where Satsuma got its loose skin from. Also, you can't judge the taste of a variety by the fruits of the first couple of years. Satsuma from 4-year-old trees tastes a little watery and bland, but some of the best mandarins I've had came from a 25+ year old Satsuma tree....See MoreCocktail grapefruit ripe? Comments (42)Nice dog Bob! I’ll keep you guys updated. I put out two snap traps in boxes this afternoon. I checked one a bit ago and the annoying critters had taken some of the peanut butter off one...no snap though! That’s ok...there was a little left and they’ll have to work harder to get it...I hope to have something tomorrow. Just now I was out one last time taking my dogs to pee when Enzo (the big fluffy one) starts sprinting across the yard. Next thing I know there is a large animal (raccoon??? Fox??) zipping past me with Lila (the Aussie) in hot pursuit. I screamed and ended up on the patio table! Lol. I hope my neighbors did not see that show!...See Morebklyn citrus (zone 7B)
