New Thermador Freedom Freezer Beeping
Comments (12)Thanks for the wonderful suggestions. gillypie ~ No ice has come out at all ever. We have even taken out the bucket and shaken it a bit... but nothing. Last night it made 1 tray of ice & today nothing. jakvis ~ The door is shut and has been shut. But when I do try to fiddle with the buttons (after reading the book. The temp might read 53 one time 63 another but it's not warm it very cold inside. Yes, I can get the beeping to stop if I switch it to Economy. All the time a low griding can be heard and never stops. evergreendan ~ The Stainless panels aren't installed yet. With the doors shut... the temp should remain the same. It shows 0 but when beeping & you push the button to stop it, it shows 40, 50 or 60 something. But like I said it's very cold inside. NOTE~~~~~ I saw your pics today of your kitchen remodel, very awsome loved it. The Teck guy is coming tomorrow ~~ THINK maybe it will be a easy & quick fix? LOL LOL LOL LOL Night all ~ Michelle...See MoreNew Freezer
Comments (7)The new freezer is a Kenmore upright manual defrost and I think it's a 17. something. I figured about a cubic food larger than I had. It was on sale at Sears for $449. Thankfully, I saved the wire bin from the old freezer because the new one didn't have one for the bottom. Fits perfectly. I also kept the only removable wire rack from the old freezer. Considered keeping the old freezer and putting it in the outside storage building, but for just one person, that's wasting electricity. When we built the house we made it handicapped accessible so didn't need to take any doors off their hinges. It was straight in the back door, a turn to the left and slid right down the little hallway into its slot. Yes, that FoodSaver was well worth it's cost and paid for itself. The new one only cost $10 more than the first one and will probably outlive me. I've been working as much as I can on the garden. Since day before yesterday I've managed to get planted 12 sweet potato slips, about 10 feet of bush beans, "target" beets, sweet banana peppers, poblano peppers, bell peppers and jalapeno peppers. The tiller is beating me to death so I can't do too much at a time, just two rows, maybe, then have to take a break. Got the ground tilled today for the tomatoes then will work on the different squash, cucumbers, okra and a couple of other veggies. The potatoes I planted last month are growing like crazy. I hope everything grows like the potatoes. Rain due in this afternoon so guess I'd better get out there and work some more....See MoreMy 24 year old subzero refrigerator/freezer may need a new compressor
Comments (5)We have essentially the same fridge and it's about the same age. It's been working great for all these years. But it recently started leaking water on the floor every so often. Moisture control in the fridge doesn't quite work properly any more. And the ice maker stopped working completely. We had a service technician come out, and he said there really isn't much he can fix. But the moisture problems will eventually cause the fridge to develop a hole and at that point it's officially dead. Unless of course, the compressor dies before then. It keeps make clonking noises which are in indicator that it is reaching end of life as well. We are on borrowed time here. It might still work another year, or maybe two. But it could just as well die the next day. And as you stated, replacing the fridge means making changes to the 20 year old cabinets. Our conclusion was that we could either keep throwing money at a half-baked solution; or we could use this as the excuse to finally do the big kitchen remodel that we had been planning for 10 years. We are doing the latter, but we are in a bit of a holding pattern, as our contractor has difficulty scheduling the project and all the required subs. And just for the record, 20 odd years is a really good time for fridge. We are going to get another SubZero. If it gets anywhere close to 20 years, we'll be quite happy....See MoreIt was past time to go thru the freezer anyway ...
Comments (16)Dave, I agree, it'll be 8 weeks, at least. One son in law is a police detective and he says people are just going crazy, getting cranky or getting drunk, scared about the current circumstances. My other son in law owns his own repair shop and I told him that even if he has to close his business by government order he could still have people drop vehicles/equipment in the parking lot, he could repair them and then they could come and pick them up and no one would even have to see each other, they could mail a check or call with credit card numbers. He would just keep his front door locked, and bring vehicles into the garage as he can get to them, and as parts supplies allow. I tend to be somewhat "self isolating" this time of year anyway. I have baby chickens due to be delivered on April 1, I ordered 100 strawberry crowns and three sweet cherry trees, the garden needs to be tilled, barns need to be cleaned, manure needs to be spread, fence needs to be repaired, posts replaced, I'm just now starting tomato plants and others, I've had hot peppers growing for a couple of weeks now. I could spend a month just doing things around the farm and not even notice! My pantry is full, as are my freezers. I defrosted and organized them a month or so ago, and just cleaned and organized the pantry last week, trying to see what I had and did not have. The chickens are laying, I'm stocked up on flour/sugar/butter/yeast, so I don't really plan any cooking differently than I usually do. I do have to keep cooking for Mother and she's very, very picky, so that may be somewhat more of a struggle if I can't find the ingredients for her very specific preferences. Annie...See MoreJohn Liu
