Should I add small cabinets over my upper cabinets?
Comments (1)If you go with a 42" cabinet, you'll be able to use the entire vertical space to adjust shelves as you like. If you keep it as 2 smaller spaces the vertical adjustment will be limited. I'm running into that problem with the 15" high horizontal cabinets I have in our laundry room. I end up wasting a lot of vertical space above the items I am storing because there isn't quite enough space to add a shelf. And you'll lose space with the thickness of the top of the lower cabinet and the thickness of the lower cabinet. I like making our upper cabinet storage as efficient as possible by adjusting the shelves to just the right heights. I would find an unnecessary barrier 2/3 of the way up a nuisance. You'll have to weigh the need for storage vs. the extra expense....See MoreMicrowave small enough to fit in an upper cabinet?
Comments (49)I know this is an old thread, but if you're like me and looking for a microwave less than 11.5" deep, I found a cheap one! Only 10.16" deep. Ktaxton 17.76 cu inch microwave 700watts. Comments (8)DEFINITELY more windows in the kitchen. How many and where depends on what kind of view you have out the back of the house where the patio is. If the view is especially picturesque, then you'd want to go big. A wall of windows, perhaps rearranged the kitchen and breakfast space a bit so more of the kitchen runs along the wall with a view. If the view isn't anything special, then I'd put a couple more windows in for light and a feeling of spaciousness, but it doesn't make sense to make windows THE feature of your kitchen when there's nothing much outside of them. I'd make the one above the sink a bit more generous and maybe flank the range hood with two windows. Also, I'm not sure I entirely understand what the breakfast area is. You have enough space there for a full dining room table, and in between the family room and kitchen, it'll function just like a dining room table. This looks like a house with two dining rooms to me. And you have an awful lot of small doorways in between the garage and the main living areas of the house. We just have one, and even that one can be annoying to navigate through when carrying lots of bags. Could you widen those doorways and not have doors in them?...See MoreUpper Corner Storage Cab ideas for Small Kitchen, show me please
Comments (1)Katy, Do you have a layout diagram that you can post? There are some very gifted GW'ers here, both professional and non-professional, who have an excellent eye and superb ideas. Not knowing how small your small kitchen really is, I would be reluctant to give up that corner counter space. I do have a corner upper- love the extra deep storage it allows. We were originally going to have two upper cupboards go all the way to the counter. I love the look- was excited about storing my tea bags in little drawers... but long story short... the bottom part of the cupboards didn't arrive with our initial cabinet order, and we have since discovered that we are using that counter space. So, we are really glad for the 'mistake'. Never having had a really long run of useable counter space before, I didn't know how valuable it is. Now, two, and when kids are home, 3 or even 4 adults can work in kitchen comfortably. If the area is big enough for a MW- that might be a good spot- but I'd leave counter space under it....See More- 4 years ago
