Design question for area next to house and basement well
Comments (2)Those are pavers. They need to be installed over a crushed stone base that's packed down tight in order for the installation be smooth, professional looking and lasting. What we use is typically called "paver base" (limestone screenings) but in different parts of the country it would go by different names. If push comes to shove, sand will work, but it's not going to be as durable. In my opinion, a mowing strip that is less than 8" in width (the length of a typical brick) is too narrow, so pick a paver as wide or do a double row as you mentioned. I notice that in the picture, they installed the mowing strip with a sunken plastic landscape edging (which helps keep the pavers aligned and in place, side to side. The edging should be sunk deep enough so that it doesn't show. Hopefully, there will be a couple of things you do differently from the above picture: 1) don't make purposeless looping curves and curlicues in the shape of the bed. And 2) don't make the bed so narrow, pinched up against the house, so that it's really too small to accommodate the size of the plants. In the above scene the plants will be spilling well over the paver border and covering it up unless they are freakily trimmed to unrealistic sizes....See MoreNeed ideas - landscaping small area between homes
Comments (7)I assume your house is on the right. Right? The most common form of zero lot line is where the edge of the house is on the lot line and your lot goes around the other 3 sides. Each home is set up this way. Looking at the area shown in your pic, it looks like the the home on the left is the one on the lot line (glass block window is a dead giveaway) and the space between the two homes belongs to the home on the right where the a/c compressor is hooked up:) A better way to tell is to look at your survey that you received at closing when you purchased the home. The boundary lines will be clearly marked on the survey. An adequate way to tell is to look at your county property appraisers website where the lot lines are sometimes shown on the aerials. If you are the house on the left, then you probably can't do anything to that side yard since it's not your yard. If you are the house on the right then consider the rocks but install a drain and large enough slabs for the walkway so you can retrieve your lawn mower without difficulty. You will need a professional landscape designer (not the guys that just do maintenance) to get the drainage right. In this insp pic the landscape designer goes into a little detail about the drainage they used for this posted project - click through to see more details...See MoreFire pit area size and design ideas
Comments (4)One of the advantages of a firepit is that it creates a focal point for your landscape, so it's good that you're taking the time to think it through. Consider the desired size of the pit itself and then add space for chairs surrounding it. Built-in firepits are very attractive, long-lasting and can be designed to complement the style of your home. They are a great selling point and smart upgrade investment. Flagstone and Bluestone Built-In Firepit is attractive and built to withstand the elements. Comments (6)Agree with others above. The current kitchen layout looks fine as is. In regards to the space next to, Depends on the user & needed future, function of the space. What function would add to the space for your use? Do you need more storage? If so, base cabinets below will be an added bonus. If you entertain, could be used as a buffet. Then above: Open shelving possible. Keep in mind, it will need to be dusted regularly. Glass cabinets with glass shelving & lighting on a dimmer are nice, if want to display items inside. Frosted glass if want ambience lighting without displaying items within. Regular cabinets an option as well. A non-permanent option is furniture to change as life changes....See MoreM R
