not restricted. discouraged. I found out when we started learning about rain gardens. I'm sure a small concrete patio is fine. I didn't really say the full scope of what we wanted to do before. we wanted more patio (in the back), also widen our driveway and pave the grassy strip along our sidewalk. it's 100' long, and the super old "grass" is mostly weeds. it gets a lot of foot traffic so I think people might appreciate a wider sidewalk. but we feel bad about it so we'll probably only widen our driveway and keep everything else natural. I love that rain gardens are a new construction requirement! that's great! we wanted to do one (or a cistern), but our yard / roof slope is not quite right for it.

DUDE! I used to live on W 121st St just off of Aviation. We sold the house in 1990 and now cannot afford to buy it back. Grasswise, you are describing any of the Marathon varieties of dwarf fescue. That should work fine for you. Call/visit Hawthorne Nursery and see if they carry it as sod and/or seed. Marathon I was the original. The II and III varieties are slower growing. There are other ornamental varieties of fescue, but the one everyone pushes in SoCal is Marathon. Do you have experience installing a new lawn? There are some very bad practices that will set you up for long term misery. What are your plans?
