My exterior brick clashes with siding...how to paint the brick?
Comments (2)Oh my gosh, I just talked to this guy today. You should call him. He totally gets color!!! His name is Michael Kornell, VP Sales & Marketing of Eco-Wares, 866-874-8070 Â Toll Free, 703-425-0439 Â Direct Line. Eco-Wares offers Trojan Masonry Sealer that leaves no trace, but they also have a TINTED one called Color Sealer. He's sending me the color chart of 36 colors. Yes, 36 colors! According to Michael, TCS dramatically changes the color of your brick without making it shiny, it's matte, it is permanent, and waterbased. It's a green product ta boot. Coolest stuff I've come across in a long time. Really excited about it. If you call him, get info, or use it, definitely post back. I don't have the color chart, so I can't make a guess at what might work to bring some harmony to your exterior, but honestly it doesn't sound like it would be that difficult to pull together a good exterior color combo. Comments (27)WOW kgibbins, that is ab-fab! I would have been one of the nay-sayers, but with that color brick I can't say that I blame you for going out on the limb, and boy did it pay off! Brilliant painting the gutters black! Yep, I'm in Texas and when I saw the before pic I thought "hmmm, there are about 10,000 houses just like that a few miles from me", LOL! I wouldn't say that about your house now, though, good job!...See MoreHome Exterior is painted white brick. Can it be changed?
Comments (12)FYI Romabio is good at what they do ... no argument here.... but they have a limited range of only whites & very light grays and it cannot be applied to anything with conventional house paint on it, only raw unpainted masonry or other mineral paint applications. There are several other mineral paint (aka potassium silicate) paint co's in the US, a couple of which have a sort of "primer" product which can go over conventional paint - try this is one : https://www.beeckmineralpaints.com/ For best results though I think Id still want to get off as much of the paint film as possible .... but without going too far and damaging the brick. Then the primer product, and then the mineral paint. Of course this would be hugely labor intensive or expensive to hire out, that is assuming you can even find anyone who has heard of mineral paint or would want to do it. At the very least find a person who understands the science about this and doesnt shrug off the concerns - maybe there are some other types of breathable coatings that I dont know about. Michelle above is correct - any coatings need to be breathable, or there WILL be damage, its only a matter of time. The brick bldg across the street from me was painted only 12 yrs ago and is already spalling (ie brick cracking and disintegrating) terribly in some places near bldg exhaust vent and other places Its really sad how the big box, do it cheap mentality of the last 30-40 yrs has resulted in so much shoddy workmanship that is now considered the norm.... and actual physical damage. Not many people thinking long term any more, beyond 10 or 20 yrs....See MoreHow do you find paint palette for exterior when half brick?
Comments (31)Nice house. The ?taupe? color shown work really well. Or you could use a shade darker brown. The white trim works well for either. You do want the garage door and the garage trim to be the same color as the siding. You want your front entry door to be the focal point of the front of your home -- NOT your garage door. Would not complicate the fascia/trim at the peak of the forward facing gable over the garage only to leave the large blank space between it and the garage door, though you could add a practical triangle attic vent there. If you add "trim" without purpose to a gable, add it to every gable. If you don't like that large a blank wall space above the garage door, you could add a window (or two) or even faux window. and/or vertical trim https://www.lowes.com/n/buying-guide/exterior-paint-buying-guide and/or vertical with horizontal that, together, shrinks the space -- or something else in the middle of the space. https://www.etsy.com/listing/800927252/tree-of-life-metal-sign-metal-wall-art?ref=pla_similar_listing_top-2&pro=1&frs=1...See Moresloyder
