My exterior brick clashes with siding...how to paint the brick?

We purchased a home that has vinyl siding that is supposed to be light gray, but has a faint blue color that totally clashes with the brick ( some shades of light tan with some areas that are terra cotta in color) on the front of the house. We have decided there is a lot less brick to paint and the vinyl is in good condition so why not paint the brick? We don't want it to look totally painted, but wondered if there is a way to whitewash the brick..and how/ what would we use to do it? We were thinking of a white front, adding black shutters all around and painting the front door classic red. Or is there a better solution I haven't thought of? Really, the current combination is ugly.
